So I recently upgraded to an M2 mini and got a Samsung 4k (32" UHD monitor) monitor with it. All is working nicely and super happy with it.

There's one weird behavior that I haven't been able to track down. Basically when the computer wakes up from sleep, some of my windows/apps are positioned in the bottom left as if the resolution was 1080 and then quickly scaled up to 4k again.

This is a simulation screenshot where I just resized Safari, but it looks something like this:

ut it

The weird thing is that it doens't happen with every app (for example, Safari doesn't do it). I mainly see it with apps like Fusion360 or Discord, etc...

It also seems to impact games that are "full screen" games as well. For example, if I have StarCraft2 open in the background and alt-tab away to do other things. If/when the computer goes to sleep, when it wakes back up, the app is still in "full screen" but in the bottom left. Like this:

The app is actually fullscreened (no menu bars, mouse is bound to the display window size, etc...) but is only taking up a fraction of the screen.

I have to quit and reopen the game for it to load properly (actual fullscreen).

I've never encountered this before, and it's a bit annoying as I have to keep moving windows around and resizing things when the computer wakes up from sleep.

I have a sneaking suspicion that when the computer wakes up from sleep, the display is somehow 1080 and then very quickly switches back to 4k, but some apps/windows are "stuck" there without moving.

Has anyone encountered anything like this before and/or have any suggestions?

Strange, your display is not seen as 4K. Notice the (Default) is after 1920x1080

I guess since it's a 32" the DPI is default for that resolution as otherwise the text is tiny (I've had to upscale it for many apps since MacOS doesn't let you change the font size globally). It's definitely 4k (as per the screenshots above), so not sure what's up with that.

Your description, "Basically when the computer wakes up from sleep, some of my windows/apps are positioned in the bottom left as if the resolution was 1080 and then quickly scaled up to 4k again," doesn't make sense. If the monitor resolution were changed to 1080 the windows would be larger, not smaller.

Anyway, the thing you're showing has happened to me with at least a couple of apps when waking up the monitors (the Mac doesn't sleep)…the NVIDIA GeForce NOW app being one. There's nothing wrong or different with my monitor's resolution but the windows look like they've been miniaturized. Usually, they pop back into shape on their own or when I select them.

Never saw anything like this until I started using the Mac Studio and LG 4K Monitor.

I guess what it seems more like the windows are stuck inside a 1080 subset of the total 4k area (hence bottom left).

Also it does seem like it can happen to Safari as well (just had it happen now when waking the computer). I wonder if it has something to do with that app being in focus or not.

In my case, when I interact with the windows they don't pop up to 4k size. Fusion360 tends to behave weirdly where if I double-click the title bar of the app, which normally maximizes the window, it kind of fills out a quarter of the screen, but wherever the window happens to be. If I drag the bottom right corner of the app (to resize it), and then double-click the title bar it properly maximizes things though.
