Monitor separate application volume

Is there a way to adjust the volume of certain applications similar to how windows 7 does, instead of just an overall system volume?
 
AFAIK only if it is an audio or video app. iTunes, Quicktime, DVD player,VLC, Sound Studio, Amadeus etc. all have their own volume controls.
