Hello again macbois! :)

So, I've been designing websites, editing movies and working with special effects on my Macbook Pro (unibody) for like 6 months, and now I'm getting a little tired of the screen space.

In other words - I'm looking for a monitor.

The problem is, the only way to ensure good quality is to buy a monitor from apple. Guess what - they only sell one, and you have to pay a whopping $899 for the screen, that's a little too much Apple Tax imo.

I'm planning to go shopping for a good 24" LCD display. Care to recommend a few? I'm not gonna go ask in the store because they are learned to serve bullshi-t on a silver plate, and I'll walk out with some overpriced shi-t.

Criterias:

  • Correct colors
  • Glossy
  • Not too ugly
  • Not a dell. Hard to find in Trondheim
  • Sharp
  • High res

Cheers.

From what I've heard the Dell 24" uses the same LCD panel as the Apple Cinema display. I know you said "No Dell", however if it's only because they're hard to find, just order it online?

I don't know which model of 24" however, so hopefully somebody will reply with the answer.

From what you have heard, you are wrong. The Dell 24" Ultrasharp uses a S-PVA panel, and the ACD uses a S-IPS panel. All of the other Dell 24" monitors use TN panels.

To the OP, how much are you willing to spend? And do you really need glossy? Most color accurate monitors aren't going to be glossy...

To be truly honest though, what you are getting out of the ACD isn't too far fetched as far as price goes. LED, S-IPS panel, built-in iSight, speakers, and a 3 in 1 cord for convenience. And the looks, that also factors into price.

If you want something with a similar panel as the ACD, the HP L2475W or the NEC 2490 are good choices, since they both have IPS panels, although neither of those are glossy.
