Monitors with nMP

Hi guys, pardon my ignorance, but I'm looking to get some a couple monitors in advance of a new MacPro in hopefully just a couple weeks. However, I haven't purchased/used external monitors in about a decade as I've been solely laptops and iMacs.

What is my best bet as far as connectors? Is just DVI fine? Or any benefit from HDMI, displayport? I don't know if these days things are relatively interchangeable with adapters or not.

It is looking like DVI is on the way out (unless adapters are used) so it might be worth looking at DP or HDMI.
