Just wondering if anyone has 1st hand experience....?

I have:
- 2012 2 x 3.46Ghz 64Gb Mac Pro,
- 2012 2.6Ghz i7 16Gb MacBook Pro
both running Monterey (via OCLP) perfectly.

I have recently acquired a 2015 2.2Ghz 8Gb MacBook Air which is currently running Catalina, but I want to update to Monterey.
I know it's pretty specific, but wondering if anyone knows/has 1st hand experience as to how well Monterey would run on the MBA...?

My plan is just to use it as a netbook, for general word processing, & very light photo/video editing (if/when Im out & about).
I dont expect it to break land speed records, but hoping it wont run like it's being dragged through the mud either...

Thanks

See sig.. I'm actually on the Air right now. I drag it with me to work every day so I can text on it instead of the phone. I've got Sonoma on it with OCLP and works fine. Also have a 2TB drive in it so I can have all my movies, pics/vids onboard. I only use it for watching my iTunes movies, Netflix, Xfinity, email, web. Works well for how I use it. You definitely don't want to have a 4gb one as OCLP does all its magic in RAM. 8gb is minimum really for it. Otherwise it's really slow or unusable in my experience. Sonoma is as high as I can go. Sequoia is basically unusable on it and the 2012. I've also got the 2012 Pro on Sonoma. My 2015 Pro is my daily and is still on Monterey and will stay there until I get a new M4/5/6/7...

I don’t have it to hand right now but I’m pretty sure that the Air that my wife is using currently and which I bought new in August 2016 will be the same model as yours. 8Gb memory, 128Gb SSD. It runs Monterey perfectly well and for e-mail, text editing, and occasional streaming purposes. I believe that yours will do what you need it to do without seeming to crawl. However, the battery on ours is now pretty much useless, which considering it’s a 2015 machine, has served me and she rather well, as it’s only become a problem in recent weeks. (Admittedly, I ran it as a desktop machine, plugged in, for an extended time, too, before the Mrs got it and she invariably used it in battery mode).

(If you like, I can post later confirming the model and OS. Yes, just checked and it’s Monterey.)

I do have an earlier Air eleven-inch (2014?) with only 4Gb memory and I kept it at Catalina. I believe it would have slowed to a much less usable state had I moved it on to the subsequent OS, Big Sur. It still made for a good word processor and web browser and the portability was a plus.

This is encouraging as Ill mainly be using as a netbook/ipad-with-a-keyboard.
My MBA is the 2.2Ghz i7 with 8Gb ram.
Currently it has the stock 128Gb SSD, but I plan on upgrading to a 1TB for Linux/MacOS dual boot...or maybe even 2TB for a Linux/MacOS/Windows triple boot...

I actually acquired 4 x 13" MBAs - I took the battery out of the unit with the lowest battery cycle count & put it into the machine that Ive decided to keep - should be getting a few hours of usage out of it...
