Monterey on Mac Pro 5,1 with OCLP keeps freezing and rendering system unresponsive. Any ideas??

Monterey generally requires little root patching. My 5,1 has an update WiFi/BLE and there are no patches required at all!
I would like at /Library/Extensions and see, whether there are older extensions from previous installs that can causes trouble. I had to retire all Coriolis support for that reason.

Thanks for your message. I’m not quite sure I understand it fully.

Which version of OCLP do you use?

I have a 5,1 running as a daily driver with a kept up to date Monterey for nearly a year right now with no issues at all.

Hard to answer your question with no knowledge of your system in detail right now. Any hardware upgrades (expansion cards, WIFI, BT etc.)? Running Monterey of HD, SSD or NVMe? How did you install?

Little more info would be nice!

Thanks for your reply I really appreciate your willingness to help me.
I have since installed Big Sur in an attempt to see if the freezing issue stops but alas, the same is happening so it must be to do with hardware or maybe even graphics card. To be clear, I have been running Mojave with zero problems for the past 5 years on my mac Pro 5.1 and only decided to try the OCLP upgrade route last week and thats when my problems started.

I have 2 x 1TB Samsung 970 EVO SSD

Please edit your post to remove the serial number. Posted publicly, it can be harvested and used by someone running Hackintosh hardware, potentially causing problems for you down the road.

It might be a good idea to post the actual manufacturer and model/variant of your graphics card; I think that not all AMD RX580 GPUs are regarded as compatible. Although, if this one was running fine under native Mojave it is probably not the issue.

@Paulmitchell64 did you ever make any progress with this? I have a very similar setup and I was getting intermittent freezing as well in Monterey after using it for years with no issue on Mojavr

Monterey on Mac Pro 5,1 with OCLP keeps freezing and rendering system unresponsive. Any ideas??
OCLP is not needed for Monterey, it’s the last native supported macOS to run with no patches, assuming you have the upgraded GPU and WiFi/BT4.
You only need Martin Lo’s open core for the boot screens, new faster RAM, and protections.
Do NOT run without OC or OCLP. Your computer can be bricked.

Slow down Fred...last supported macOS for 5,1 Mac Pro is Mojave (macOS 10.14). Catalina 10.15 needs to be patched, and for newer releases, you should use OCLP (Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma, Sequioia).

You can also use a manually configured OpenCore up to and including Monterey which many do -

Sure you can. OCLP or Manual OC config + EFI bless but that wasn't the point.
