way beyond just organizing photos...

...They are photo organizers and photo retouchers, nothing more.

90% of my imaging is done without Photoshop, maybe a little more... and I do an awful lot. There is a common misconception about A3, and probably even LR that it is just for sorting and minor edits. I have been using pshop since 1.0, and have taught it to other professionals (photographers, designers, etc), but could teach the basic fundamentals of A3 in a fraction of the time. I would argue that some folks could even do without pshop, or be fine with an older version. There are some exceptions, like layering, compositing, working with type, and CMYK conversion that pshop still is needed.

Post processing and clean up of images are simply way faster than pshop. Yes, you can batch actions but the process is not exactly intuitive... while A3 lets you batch with literally two clicks. Add in the NIK suite of plug-ins and other third party extensions and you have something that beats pshop at its own game. Factor in the ease of creating and sharing Presets and you have another blow for pshop (admittedly LR has a larger share of presets that exist).

Not sure what version the OP had been using but both A2 & A3 have one click to edit any file in pshop, which is the same as LR.

Just found this article on bare feats that seems to show a pretty considerable difference in speed with light room coming out on top!

I realize that they are using a top of the line Mac pro but the speeds should be similar on a slower machine right?

I'll be sure to post my impressions of light room when I download the trial after I get my computer!

This is consistent with my experience with the two programs on a Penryn MBP with 4GB RAM.
