I think the one button mouse needs to go the way of OS 9.

You mean Apple needs to design a 2-button mouse which can revert to "Classic Mode", thus disabling the second button, scroll wheel and extra functionality if the user so desired? ;)

A new mouse from Apple will give you the benefits of the 2 button mouse without being a 2 button mouse. I predict that from MacWorld next year.

Also Apple will join with Apple Corps to sell music online including exclusive access to the Beatles. That lawsuit will finally be laid to rest. Both companies will enjoy the benefits. (I hope that comes true). Apple Corps would be stupid not to take advantage of that partnership.

Maybe I can sell or share my Garageband tunes on iTunes like eBay?

I know you're kidding right?? Looks like it's from the set of the original Star Trek.

The racing stripe does make it look like you're going faster though!

It does look like from the original series. From the entire series, I think Scotty was the only one that ever picked up a mouse. It was a one button Mac mouse. He hated the one button mouse and ended up using the keyboard. All Macs with OS X can be operated from the keyboard.

Two successful new products came out a few years after that scene with Scotty. A one inch thick Powerbook and a transparent iMac.

The S+ark mouse is a good attempt, but they still don't get it right. That Logitech doesn't have the Apple magic either. It'll be difficult, but I think Apple has something up their sleeve we haven't thought about. It's time for real innovation.

I love the scrollwheel, but I sure don't miss it on my Mac. I automatically adapt to the mouse I'm using. My left hand is always on the keyboard, so pressing the Control key to access the contexual menu is totally natural.

I watch Windows users trying to work on a one-button moused Mac and they are handicapped... so it just goes to show you that Steve has it right.... keep the one-button mouse, and give people the option to use a two-button mouse (and scrollwheel) if they so desire. More proficient that way.

In fact, I work as Tech Support, and frequently must walk users through different troubleshooting steps. The most challenging times is when they keep asking.... "is that the left or the right mouse button I should be using?" Always saying "left-click this, right-click that" just makes it sound so confusing. This is why most people think computers are hard, when they don't have to be... Macs prove that. Keep with simplicity, Steve.

No I don't remember that at all, its common opinion that the 3G iPod is the best of the bunch so to say, I find the touch sensitive-ness to be much more superior to that of the click wheel (biased opinion because the click wheel is horrible :p ).

Either you can't afford a 4G iPod and you're jealous, or you've never really used one. The Click-Wheel is much nicer than the 3G's design. I've used both in a highly-critical situation (workshop needing the right music at the right moment), and the 4G was much easier to use.... no thinking about which button to press.

Finally, something needed to be done about that mouse.

Just make the reverse/forward buttons work with the Finder and I'll get one.

Hey, I had the same problem, but fixed it by going into my logitech control panel, and changing the forward button to command-], and the reverse to command-[. This still works with safari, but it also works with the finder.

Shhhhh. News.com better be careful. Apple might sue them for er...um...reporting news or something.

There's a difference between something that can be viewed by the public (all of these patents), and something being kept secret and private by an NDA (Tiger leaks, etc,).

But, I get the joke :)

I think we're gonna be blown away by thsi new mouse. I'll admit i find myself switching between my apple mouse and my stark one. If Apple does revise the new mouse i hope they make it quieter. Am i the only one that thinks the Apple Pro mouse clicks entirely to LOUD?

And at somewhere between 15-20 dollars, its probably a piece of crap.

I'd love a mouse that is truly beautiful, built really well, maybe even with some lightweight metals.

It looks a lot like an Apple Mouse anyway.

I'd like there very much to be a two-button scrolling majigger made by apple, so then customers could have the choice.

It could end up going the same way the new newton went. They developed it, then Steve saw it and didn't like it...

Hmm, I dunno - I would have liked to have seen that!!

Apple or iTunes

Hrmm yeah I didn't think Apple Corps had much of a reason to sue Apple for the Apple Music Store, but for this iTunes Producer thing... hell I'd be pissed. :)

But isn't that exactly why it's NOT the "Apple Music Store", but is the "iTunes Music Store"? And why this is not "Apple Producer", but is iTunes Producer? The parent company name isn't used in any of the music-related products or activities. If Apple loses this law suit, there's something wrong. Very very wrong. ;)

Apple Records sued Apple Computer because the latter agreed, a long time ago, to refrain from developing any kind of music related business, an agreement to which Apple Computer has obviously not stuck. The naming conventions are immaterial.

In fact, Apple Records' case is far from wrong, and they have won money from Apple Computer in the past for exactly the same thing.

He didn't hate the one button mouse! He thought it was for audio commands and tried to speak into it. Then the guy said "just use the Keyboard"

Actually the agreement said they would not distribute music on a physical medium which they are not Even the court already said the case lacks clarity.

I "only" have the MX510, (corded, no BT, no laser, etc. don't need all that stuff) and I find it to be an amazing mouse as well. It's no MX1000..

Don't worry, your 510 is better than the 1000--people say it jumps horribly. In fact the specs on the interfacing part of the mouse are the exact same, save for the fact that the input is via a laser as opposed to a camera. It doesn't justify the 20 or so extra you'll pay for it when their lesser mice are more than adequate.

I'd suggest an MX900 (which is the 510's engine with wireless) if you wanted a wireless mouse. It's gotta be the best bluetooth mouse on the market, IMO.

Get a Ratpadz GS mousing surface (http://www.ratpadz.com) and some teflon mouse tape for your 510...trust me, you'll thank me later. :-D

I don't think "Apparatus for remotely controlling a digital processing system" is a new mouse, I think it's the AirTunes Remote.

Bah! I don't see how any of this stuff is patentable. The PTO must take an extremely narrow view of what is prior art. What a stupid, stupid system.

Ah, good to know, thanks for making e feel better about my mouse. ;) I was looking at the MX900 as well, but honestly just don't care about wireless - it isn't a huge issue for me. I know it's not a big deal, but I guess I'd rather not have a mouse with batteries that need to be recharged/replaced, a cradle, a receiver for the signal, yadda yadda. My mouse stays near my Mac all the time, so having it corded is not an issue in the least....

What are you on? The click wheel rules!

My 2 cents

Yeah so I just wanted to add my 2 cents and bout the click wheel mouse. I think that it's a great idea just hope the touch sensitive part doesn't stink. I hope that it works flawlessly. As far as getting one I may go check it out in an Apple Store if and when it arrives but will have to make a decision on getting one after that because like I said I hope the touch sensitivity does not stink. There you have my 2 cents.
