I'm really surprised that Apple didn't make the Apple Pencil magnetic so that it sticks to the side of the iPad pro.
I don't think they thought through the Pro product very well.

Well, I have a feeling most of us were buying this thing anyway?
Apple Oxmoor in Louisville also had some today. I purchased two!
As far as checking stock, call your local Apple Store and when the automated system asks how it can help you, say "manager". It gets you to a person in store every time.
You're correct, but now there are more people caught up in the frenzy. There's the scalpers and people who only want this damn thing because it's hard to get. So the people that really need it are in a state of urgency. they're either paying 2x the price or flying high speed to the store.
I just don't think they would be selling out this fast if the stock was available from launch.
Yeah, they did it over coffee break one day...I don't think they thought through the Pro product very well.
Are the boxes really that huge ? most of it would probably be packaging....
I take this as "O.K" for products, or wearable's. but not for small things like a pencil ...which could eaasily be in a much thinner box... u don't get anything else, so why is the box that big ?
Thank goodness Apple does go for recyclable

What, the same device you're constantly sliding in and out of a stand or case, picking up, rotating etc? Yeah, can see why they didn't actually.

When I bought the iPad last week, the guy was telling me they get shipments randomly, not always first thing in the morning. Apparently they could show up mid-day, even.Mind if I ask what time? I was there at 10:15, at which time they "had none in stock and had not had any in stock at any time up to now". I thought first thing in the morning was the only stocking time.
I actually feel a little bad about the way I found out the store here in Tucson had them in stock.
I tried calling the local store, and the automated system put me to an obviously centralized sales person... She was very cordial when she answered, and then when I asked if the Pencils were in stock, she proceeded to tell me that they weren't available in stores yet. After a long day of work, I didn't respond in the nicest manner, and said "Well, perhaps you should check online, because there are sites with postings from customers saying that some stores have them in stock, which is why I tried to call the local store and speak to someone there instead of an operator reading a script." As she told me that the system shows them not available yet but that she would call the store, I could tell by her tone that I had been a bit heavy-handed in my approach.
What a joke, the pencil should have been included with the iPad Pro. Out of the box, the it's only a jumbo iPad...
The magnetic attachment would provide only a false sense of security. Joanna Stern of the WSJ liked the Surface Pen but complained that she managed to lose it at an airport.I don't think they thought through the Pro product very well.
Nope. There's an Apple Store on Walnut St in Philly. I live right down the street from it.
Author here. I definitely mean the Walnut Street store in Philadelphia.
Looks like there is a Shadyside Apple Store in Pittsburgh, also on a Walnut Street, so I can see your confusion.
