my guess would be a new iphone in JUne/July with current OS and OS 4 in September in time for the new ipod touch. Last year 3.1 was a huge upgrade compared to 3 and Apple had it in development the whole time. not like they coded and tested it in 2 months. they probably released 3 just to have a higher version number with the new iphone and the real release was 3.1 when the new iPod's came out

Wish it were sooner. Dumped our iPhones in early 2010 (I know: Heresy!) but we're ready to go back (to iPhones).

I just can't bring myself to pull the ol' trigger for two reasons:

1. Gotta be a new iPhone on the horizon
2. Wondering if other vendors (Verizon, etc.) will carry it and drive data/plan prices down.

I'm there with you, except that I've never had an iPhone. The wife really wants one and 3 of 4 phones on our family share plan are about to be out of contract (mine isn't out until November). I'm waiting to see what drops in the summer. If Verizon gets the new iPhone (I doubt they will) I will stick with Verizon else we will be switching to AT&T.

This REALLY needs to happen. Apple says "Multitasking will drain your battery". What IF people WANT to drain your battery? There are people that want to browse the web and listen to music, just like they can do on their computers. And I'm sure Apple can make it a little better than a BlackBerry multitasking, just like they made Apps and web browsing better.

I can listen to music on the iPod app and then go back to the home screen and launch Safari on my 3G. The music continues playing as I browse the web and a double tap of the home button brings up my iPod controls.

Have you even used iPhone OS before? If you've got an iPhone or iPod Touch, go and open up the iPod app. Play your music. While it is still playing, exit the app and launch any other app. Safari would be a good choice, since music+browsing is what you're after. Now, you are listening to music at the same time as browsing the web, which is exactly what you wanted. Now, double tap the Home button and you can bring up the iPod controls without leaving Safari.
