A report from ModMyi claiming that Apple may be preparing to launch the next-generation iPhone on June 22nd has been generating some attention despite apparent confusion from a number of rumor sites. According to the report, Apple has booked a venue for the launch on that date.
Although no confirmations have yet come from Apple (naturally), there is speculation that the big reveal could take place on June 22nd. For this particular occasion, Apple has once again reserved the very conference center where the company announced the three previous versions of the iPhone. So all signs, indeed, point to June 22nd proving the 4th gen iPhone's "big day."
A number of sites (one, two, three) have taken the report to mean that Apple has booked the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, site of many Apple special media events in the past, for the unveiling. Nowhere in the original report, however, does it mention what the venue is or what the evidence for the claim that Apple has booked it is.

In fact, Apple's recent pattern has been to introduce new iPhone models as part of the keynote address for its Worldwide Developers Conference in the Moscone West convention center in San Francisco, so it appears that the report may be referring to WWDC.

In the absence of evidence or a source for the claim that Apple has booked a venue for June 22nd, we're taking this rumor with a grain of salt. It does match with an earlier report of a June 22nd launch date, but multiple hints have suggested that Apple is planning to hold WWDC a week later than that.

Regardless, Apple is expected to officially announced the dates for this year's WWDC in the near future, and, given past history, it would be a significant surprise if the new iPhone was not announced directly in conjunction with the conference.

Can we assume WWDC will now be "tri-vided" between Mac development, iPhone development, and iPad development? Or will iPhone and iPad be quasi-lumped together?

Can somebody remind me, in previous iPhone launches, were they available to purchase immediately or at a specified later date? I need to upgrade my original iPhone soon.

The iPad will be the Hybird OS

Meaning OS X Functions and iPhone OS functions

In a year will see the difference between all the platforms.

Also it's safe to say will see a new iPhone between June 1st & July 29th

In the past they have been specified for a later date.

iPhone - announced January 9th, 2007, shipped June 29th*
iPhone 3G - announced June 9th, 2008, shipped July 11th*
iPhone 3Gs - announced June 8th 2009, shipped June 22nd*

* US Dates

So I guess I won't get my hands on an new iPhone until early July at the earliest :(

I am not eligible for an upgrade until Sept. 25...that will give Apple a chance to work out all the bugs in the new iPhone. Plus by that time, I suspect, we will see iPhone OS 4.1.

Come on baby.... give me a date for availability!!!!!

I'm taking a vacation day for the release and you will find me lined up outside the Carousel Center's Apple Store that morning!!!

Any other MacRumors forum members that are from the Northern and Central NY region that want to plan on getting in line together for the release at Carousel Center, PM me and we will get the ball rolling!

PM sent, fellow upstater! :)

I'm really looking forward to this update. I can't wait - I'm still rocking the first gen. It's slower now; a little choppy, and the Wifi died, so since the support for it is dropped, I feel the need to splurge again and indulge myself.

MMS, Multitasking, Video, oh... and 3G! :D Woohoo! Finally!

This is probably going to be the most significant hardware update of the iPhone to date. I guess we have Google to thank for that with their Nexus and Droid competition. I'm hoping for a high resolution screen to make text look as good as on the Nexus One.

Isn't MMS available on the 1st gen with an update? but still 1/3....

In the recent iPhone OS 4.0 technology preview event, Steve mentioned that the new OS would come to the iPhone and iPod touch (certain models) this summer and the iPad this fall.

Thus, it would be likely that iPhone development also covers iPad.

I talked to my local ATT rep and he told me when the 3GS came out (my current, and first model) they didn't req users to be at the end of a contract term (decision based on Apple and ATT agreement). I hope to be able to upgrade to the latest hardware. Heck I would even extend my contract two more years.

Pretty Much Everything...

In the latest Apple Keynote event Steve said that the iPhone 3Gs and Latest iPod Touch (32Gb & 64Gb) models would run "Pretty Much Everything" (59:10 into the presentation) If that is the top of the line hardware for iPhone and iPod Touch wouldn't it stand to reason that it would run everything? Was that a clue that there is something more coming? He then goes on to say that the 3G and earlier iPod Touches wouldn't get some features like Multitasking. Was that a slip of the tongue or foreshadowing?

I would say wait another year for ATT to roll out there 4G network (as its expected by Nov this year i think so we can see an iPhone 4G

No way : ) Not if the hardware upgrade as significant as rumored. I want this thing day 1 baby!!!

Ready Freddy

I have 3 iPhones 3G models that are ready to update, I will be leaving a small fortune again at the Apple store. Based on what I heard the 3GS were pretty speedy and the iPAD much more speedy. So this 4G should kick ass, specially if it supports video iChat.

IPhone Upgrade

If the new hardware is as good as I hope, I am not waiting for the 4g next year, if not, then I will buy the ipad and wait...most of the people in my office are chatting about Verizon getting the iphone in June.

ATT Upgrades!!

I've only had my iPhone 3G for thirteen months and on Monday when I looked at my AT&T account I had a message that I was now eligible for an upgrade! I can't figure out why the upgrade so early in my 2 year contract, but I'm joining the line of the rest of you waiting for July to come for the new phone!;)
