Strange. I cleared up some space on my Macbook to install Mavericks. My trash was empty. I had 19.3GB of free space. Installed Mavericks and it is now telling me I have 25.85GB of free space.

    ???

Yep same here, I gained nearly 10 GB i believe

They must have removed a lot of junk files from previous releases that weren't necessary

Wow, have not noticed this! 10GB is significant, this really shows how well Mavericks is designed, well done apple!

    Goooooooood

Its good to hear that other people have experienced this chilling good feeling.

I had only 1gig of free space left after the download of mavericks. After the install finished, I looked at my HD and saw 47 gig of free space :D
(You know that sudden fear you get when something feels wrong)

I was wondering what documents apple had deleted because of the install. LOL

PS I had upgraded from Leopard.

Did all of you folks have Time Machine turned on? I noticed my Mavs install shrunk the Time Machine local backups down to almost zero. That would account for some savings.
