I think Apple wants to bring and end to the 3G as soon as possible and move it's entire product line to the 3GS hardware.

I think that's the truth. It makes a lot more sense for Apple to be the same parts for all of their phones, instead of maintaining stock for two different models. Once the supply of 8GB 3G phones run out, Apple will probably announce the 8GB 3Gs - and that will probably happen sooner rather than later!

Done with iPhone

As soon as my contract on my iPhone comes to an end this December, I will get rid of my iPhone. It has nothing to do with the phone, it has to do with AT&T. As soon as another carrier (hopefully) gets the iPhone, I will gladly switch carriers and have an iPhone again.

What bothers me is that Apple was fine with AT&T's incompetence and rolled out the 3.0 software and 3GS without all of the bells and whistles being fully functional. How can Apple respond to an SMS vulnerability fix within 2 days yet AT&T cant provide MMS after nearly 3 years and 3 different iPhones? AT&T is garbage and a $99 8gb 3GS wont keep me around (if it is true) and only provided by AT&T in America. :apple:fail

yeah, i don't have any doubts that the 8GB 3G will be replaced with a 3GS, so they will all be 3GS

Why do you have "no doubts"?

Where is the 4GB iPhone 3G? Where is the 4GB iPod nano? Where is the 80GB iPod Classic? Where are the 1GB and 2GB iPod Shuffle? Where is the 500GB Time Capsule?

They were never made (4GB 3G) or are long gone because Apple tends to size-up as they refresh their products.

Rogers Rep all but confirmed it

I was in Calgary recently at a Rogers store and I asked him when they are getting in the 8gb 3Gs. He said "wow that's fast i only read that yesterday, but uhh were not allowed to comment on that". Smooth. I'm assuming he was referring to the memo that all rogers sales reps get that was posted recently.

It's possible.....

Or he was messing with you. Or he was trying to give a positive answer to a potential customer. Or he was confused by your question. Rogers employees aren't the brightest bulbs (I think I read that somewhere else in this thread....). They don't know anything about this stuff until it becomes official.

Those options are definitely possible. After he said that I told him that was fine and I understand that he isn't allowed to comment on that till their stock of the 3G is gone. I told him I was only interested in an 8gb iPhone 3GS as i wanted the performance upgrades not the capacity. He then said check back in a bit a month. (This was about a week ago) I understand that he might just be trying to give me the product I want (Whether it exists or not) still, I strongly believe the 8gb 3GS will be announced at the media event this september.

Yes a very stupid question. the iphone 3gS runs at 600mhz 200 mhz faster than 3g and has double the ram and a better camera.

Amen. It would be a tempting offer to upgrade from my 16GB 3G to an 8GB 3GS for precisely the benefits you mention above.
