Waiting for Merom?

If it's true that Merom is shipping early Q3 2006 then I think July is a possibility.
Apple may be waiting for the new chips to arrive before announcing Intel (Mac/i)books.

Would it make sense for Apple to put 64-bit, more-powerful Meroms into their iBooks while their MBPs still have 32-bit less-powerful Yonahs in them though? Might as well give Conroe to the iMacs before the PowerMacs if that's the case...

Perhaps the point was to put Merom chips in the MBP and Yonah in the iBook ;)

Perhaps...

I like my plan better, but its probably wishful thinking.

I need a laptop by mid-august and I would prefer a Merom powered ibook,
but seriously I am going to buy whatever they release.

Well yes, that would make sense and is what I think will most likely happen, but that wasn't how I read the post. Now that re-read it, I see what you mean. Ah well, I'm an idiot...

i know you just called yourself an idiot and what not, but if you think about what Apple had planned at WWDC '05, the said we wouldnt see Intel Macs still June. So really, it all fits in.

Another good reason why Apple are late on a Macbook is that they hadnt thought the Intel release that well for the other products. Dont get me wrong, they've done a great job, but this transition has gone together rather quick. Ah well, not long left now. There isnt any point in guessing when the Macbooks will come out, because they're nearly 4 months overdue since Think Secret said they'd be out.

It's all been said before

I was actually at Best Buy the other day contemplating buying a Windoze machine... I can't stand this iBook G4 mess anymore, we bought it thinking I wouldn't have to hold on to it for too long with the upcoming Intel machines, but alas... It's still here. I'm not asking for much like a dedicated graphics card or even a definite release date. I just would really love to know which month I can expect to drop the load of money it would take for me to get on of these machines. I think it's only fair...

Macworld.co.uk claims that Apple has an arragement with a UK company to get rid of Apple's "ex-demo stock".

According to the news site, Apple is selling through a number of iBooks and eMacs at discounted prices.

Macworld.co.uk speculates that this means new consumer portables are comming soon.

Great News!
Discounted Macs = HAPPYINESS

Macbook

I visited my "local" (1.5 hours away) apple store yesterday. I asked one of the clerks "When are they going to replace the iBook?" Of course, I got a canned "They don't tell me anything" response. I'm seriously in the market for a laptop after chucking my old gateway in favor of a 17" iMac. I'm perfectly fine with a G5 as my primary computer and a leftover i or pbook would be just fine for the road. And I prefer a small laptop, for my purposes, even 15" is too big. I'm just waiting to see if I can grab a leftover or if maybe I may spring for the big $ and grab a macbook. The only feature it will (hopefully) have that I need is the backlit keyboard. Unless one of you guys has seen a 12" i or pbook that was rigged with a backlight?
