I don't think there is much else they can do with the software. Just add ability to multi-task and let me worry about my battery charge. The App store will take care of my software needs.

The next upgrade should really be an all out hardware upgrade (not that I'd get one, since I just got my 3GS this past summer so I'd have to wait until 06/11).

A built in infrared toaster in the screen would be nice for camping trip... Get your solar panels, a couple of sticks to prop up, or on the dash board... Wallah!

Seriously though, if the G-Android phone is going to have OLED that means the hardware is now affordable enough, by the next iPhone cycle, to finally be implemented into the phone...

A point I have noticed... if the new generation iPhone changes it's external form too much then it will no longer fit in the TomTom cradle which begs the question... will that form change much???

front facing camera- NEGATIVE.
Flash- maybe
5MP Camera- most likely
OLED- most likely NOT.
Multi tasking- Higher chance
MacBook style battery- Never happening on an iPhone.
FM Radio- I would like to see that already pre-installed with the iPhone, but it's a maybe :) i think so,..
2x resolution?- Maybe a little.

Front facing camera- Not this time (unless it's wifi only) but most likely on the 4g network
flash- Doesn't seem like something Apple would do. That design would most-likely not be Apple-like.
5mp camera- Almost certainly. Especially if we keep the same chassis
OLED- horrible in the sunlight. I hope Apple waits till at least AM-oled plus if Apple ever used OLED they should make the OS more black (white uses a lot of energy on oled)
Multi-tasking- Depends on if Apple can get the new battery really good. Apple wouldn't let people get 2 hour battery life, regardless on the individual's thoughts on this
Macbook style battery- not sure what is being referred to here. Aren't all the innovations in battery life just from allocating more space for the battery?

2x resolution- I think it would look weird. Maybe 1.5 times more pixels would be slightly less headache causing. :apple:
As always these are simply guesses, as neither you nor I can completely tell what Apple will do.

Maybe version 3.1.3 is for 1st gen iPhone and 4.0 is for the 3G, 3GS and 4G phone.

Like others I wonder what woill be in the new iPhone and new OS version.

I would love the iChat camera and anything else they add to it.

This may be a phone with a lot more advancements and features to leave the rest of the industry in the dust for another 3 years.

I am up for a new phone come June so I am ready.

Nope, and I think even 3GS will look obsolete for 4.0 half year from now.
I'm a 3G owner as well, but I think APPL just want us to buy new products every year:

iPhone 2G - cannot even remember how this one looks like... ;))
iPhone 3G - needs to be replaced ASAP, see next ones:
iPhone 3GS- voice recognition, compas, video rec., FMradio...

iPhone 4.0 - real multitasking... as it's about time
iPhone 5.0 - front facing camera, just in case someone will ever need it
iPhone 6.0 - OLED, as it will be "mature" by then
iPhone 7.0 - RFID, as everyone wants to be tracked in realtime
iPhone 8.0 - maybe can prepare my morning coffee :p
iPhone 9.0 - virtual screen/display, maybe a nice projector, and...
iPhone 10 - finally, the magic teleporting iDevice :))))))

Exact point i said on the last rumor about the WWDC event dates speculations.
I just couldn't get myself together at this one, but i'm more on your side with what you're trying to say.
p.s.- If there is a flash, i hope it's on the apple logo. That way the logo can be on while the phone is unlocked and in used, so it can have a little macBook look, brighter flash, and so it doesn't mess up the iPhone look :)

It'd be great if the new iPhone hardware has built-in cell-phone service.

I do think iPhone OS 4.0 is on the tablet computer OS. And it will have a different app approval process, because with support for multimedia magazines, Apple will have to deal with a lot of magazines with "adult" subject matter. Don't be surprised if Apple in iPhone OS 4.0 includes a clearly-marked "parental control lock" function that will "firewall" adult-oriented multimedia magazines unless you know a specific password sequence.
 
I don't want the iPhone to turn into a mobile chat room, bogging down Networks even more so than they are now.

No Camera at the front, no Multitasking.

I personally would like even more power, space & maybe, just maybe a Magsafe connection.
 
One thing:

Unified Notification system.

I'm sick and tired of popups. Get rid of them. Not a fan of Android OS, but if there is anything they got right it was NOTIFICATIONS.

Please Apple FIX this.

Macbook style battery - i think what is meant by this is that the Macbook batteries have a 1000 charging cycles instead of the standard 300 in current batteries
