I'd only upgrade from my X if I wanted the Max, which I don't. Lived with the + size for a gen and not interested in going back.

S4 OTOH - that's a no brainer for me.

Plus, I figure that the 2019 phones will be much more interesting in terms of updates. They'll have to shrink (eliminate?) the notch at the very least.

iPhone X and S3 user here - keeping iPhone X and ordered S4 watch. The iPhone XS is basically identical to the X...2019 iPhone X will be a much bigger update IMO.

I agree. I went from a series 0 to series 2, and the extra 0.7mm thickness, small as it seems, really bothers me. The series 4 loses that 0.7mm again, so I’d like to upgrade - but as it’s a brand new design, it’ll take a while before cases are available (I get scratches all over my hands and wrists from work, so I really do need a case - the couple of times I’ve forgotten have left permanent scratches on the glass).

I don’t like the new iPhones, and I’m seriously considering switching to a mid-range Android, because Apple prices are obscene. The watch is the only thing keeping me here - if it was standalone, or could sync to Android... For now, I’ve put a new battery in my iPhone 7, and I’ll keep it a little longer. Maybe I’ll get a fitness tracker rather than a smart watch; I use it mostly for fitness and music controls, nothing that really needs a full watch.

Another reason to wait is that apart from the new design, the headline feature is the heart rate thing - coming soon to customers in the US, and no date when or if it might come to the rest of the world. Why restrict it? Is it something to do with the FDA approval, so they have to wait for NICE in the UK, and whatever else elsewhere - so does it just not work? That seems bonkers; just give me another box to tick after ignoring the wall of text warning me it isn’t approved.
