    Tried search, no avail.

I've read here that the best preset to use is the AppleTV setting on handbrake to encode dvd's for the iPad. I converted it, everything went fine, but I receive an error message on iTunes that says the file can't be played on the iPad  The only setting I changed was the video codec to MPEG-4 from the H.264 because I've read it was faster with a smaller video size. Is this where the problem is?

Unfortunately I can't help the person who started the thread, but rather than start another discussion, I thought I would add a question of my own. I have used handbrake quite a bit over the years, and thought I would try and make copies of some films for when my iPad arrives. One DVD has caused endless problems because the chapters seem to be assembled completely out of order in the final file. For example, the closing credits are right in the middle of the film! Any suggestions as to why this might be happening? I am using the Apple TV setting, without any adjustments, and also experimented with Universal (with the same result).

Probably. The iPad specs say that it supports H.264 up to 720p (1280x720), but MPEG-4 only up to 640x480. A (16:9) DVD gets converted to 852x480 (or thereabouts), or anamorphically encoded at 720x480, both of which are bigger.

    Use H.264. It's a better codec.
