note that the revealed part of the casing for the "iPhone nano" itself is grey aluminum with with a black silencer switch, the same deisgn for the original iPhone (as opposed to white or black plastic with chrome buttons that are implemented on the iPhone 3G)
So no 3G then?

We want an ipod TOUCH nano edition :/ Like I said before the 4g ipod nano came out, grrr

Ipod touch about 20% smaller or 15% bigger than an ipod nano 3G (on it's side)

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Release that and sadly, I'll buy it - ditch this god awful ipod nano 4g (which is very, very inferior to the 3g)
I want a larger-than-iPod touch mini-tablet too.

an all new photo is available here : http://www.iphonefr.com/viewtopic.php?pid=437938#61

amazing
Why does it remind me of these?

Bull

Great idea(s). But the main reason for the 3G's sales is the developer comunity. Apps were ready because they released the SDK months ago. If you release a nano (nothing on FCC btw) this fast it would have no apps rendering it useless. And the current apps won't work because you can't fit the same electronics in the smaller package. Give me one reason why this makes sense?

the Iphone currently runs a modified, slimmed down version of MAC OS X which is a testiment to Apples well designed operating system, however it takes up lots of memory still, and i simply cant grasp how an Iphone Nano could possibly provide this? unless they choose to run a different OS on it, which means none of the current Iphone apps or widgets would work, like any normal phone, but then you may as well get a samsung or something because it would be no different!

I see two reasons why Apple would risk allegedly fracturing iPhone development to three separate screen dimensions:

1. Capture the women's and japanese markets by creating a smaller alternative.

2. Capture more of the low end market by creating something less expensive (but probably not as cheap as people are thinking . . .)

3. Allow more color options by manufacturing the phone with a different lower-cost material that is more easily colored. (ie: the iPod nano color spectrum . . . but probably not that diverse)

Apple is after more hardware sales . . .
And realistically, it might be better for Developers if there's an easy toolkit to use to convert their apps to fit on the potential iPhone nano screen because they'll have a secondary revenue stream from a smaller investment of time to convert their old app.

I predicted Apple would release an iPhone nano as soon as the original was announced but I had given up on that hope until now. :)

never seen more bs in my life

come on stop the bs!! wee all really know the iphone nano is a lie..... it´s to small to be practical imagine trying to type on such a keyboard or doing all of the other functions the iphone has. it would certainly be a nightmare to use!

not AT&T?

It seems to me that the primary advantage of an iPhone Nano would be if they could offer it through another carrier. Since they want to continue with the world market it would have to be a GSM device, which would limit said selection to T-Mobile.

It would be pretty ironic if people ended up jail-breaking iPhone Nanos to work with AT&T. Anyway, offering it on a different network would allow them to structure the plans different than for the current iPhones, although aside from the GPS I'm not sure why it would be any lower. It's not as though people will talk or email less on a smaller device. Agreed, however, that it does not make much sense to worry about the difference between $197 and $99 when you'll end up spending $1799 on monthly charges!

If they can make the phone work (landscape-only mode?) then I would be interested in a smaller iPhone. I've been able to resist the urge to buy an iPhone so far because of the vast difference in the price plans between what I'm paying for my Blackberry Pearl with Sprint and the iPhone price plans. Although I'll probably bite the bullet once they add cut and paste to the iPhone. I just can't bring myself to pay more for what is essentially a toy. In the meantime, I consider the smaller form factor and significantly reduced weight of the Pearl to be significant advantages, so I fit the profile of someone who is interested in an iPhone nano.

M@

Only way the iphone nano would work is if it's made to be just a regular phone running on EDGE and not a 3G smart phone.

That way they could sell it for $99 and have a $40 a month plan to hit that demographic cell phone users. No data plan needed. No web browser. Just text messaging, calling, music and games.

I say it's real. I say it will have less features and will not require the data plan and will therefore grab a lot more consumers and drag them into the apple cell phone realm.

And I hope you're right, because I want to be dragged into Apple cell phone realm!

Options

What if Apple just blew everyone away.

Same storage options
wifi
3G
GPS
App Store compatible
iCal

Just Smaller! If you want the big one, get the big one. If you like the smaller one get the nano.

I usually don't comment much on the authenticity of mockups, but if it does exist it will probably look like this.

The photos show no Volume or Hold buttons which I think would be a weird thing to drop off the phone.

Also, if these are right, it would appear that there is no external speaker because the headphone jack is on the bottom right, while a mic has to be on the other side. (It could share the same internal speaker as the Touch...not that you could probably ever hear it ring).

The photo with it in the persons hand looks highly suspect.

I love it when everybody jumps in on how horrible a design is based on rumors, then 3 weeks later when it actually comes out, all of the sudden its "fantastic"

Exactly why I am waiting for it to come out before I make my full opinion known, but I think this would be great for teenagers though, they adapt to almost anything when it comes to technology ( I'm 20 so I know ), I think it'll have wifi but no data plan because most parents will not want to pay $100 a month but rather the regular $60 for 450 min ( teens don't call that much ) and unlimited text. That would make sense. Colors may be good too

CONFLICTING INFO:

According to the case, the headphone jack is on top, and the pics above, the headphone jack is on the bottom...

It doesn't matter what the mock up for the case designers use. Of course apple wouldn't give them the actual design but the specs ONLY in order for the case companies to be ready to launch their products right after the release. These are just mock ups people! By the case companies! :D we'll see how it will look at macworld

Ahh I just bought an iPhone and it arrived yesterday - all of these pictures and rumors is making it hard for me to decide if I should open mine and activate it or wait a whole week until after the keynote.

What should I do? Is it a problem with AT&T if I wait a week+ to activate the phone that they shipped (will my rate plan auto start or get cancelled or something)? I don't know if I can wait a whole week or what me waiting to activate it would really accomplish - would I still have to pay the restocking fee? Even if I activate and use it I could still return within 30 day limit anyway right? Hmm decisions decisions...

I went to the Cingular store to pick up my iPhone that I was dearly waiting for as well...andddd I just couldnt do it. I didn't want to be punching myself in the face just one week later. I think you have to open and connect the phone to activate it. If you do want to wait, do NOT take it out of the shrinkwrap and you will NOT have to pay the restocking fee. That is only for people that use the phone for 30-days and decide that they do not like it. But YES, you have 30 days and can return it but will pay either $19 or $29 for restocking fee....as long as the "new verison" whatever thay may be gets into the store within 30 days of when you bought your phone.

thanks. do you know what the 14 day thing was? i thought i read somewhere it was 14 days on apple products and you pay restocking only if it is opened but then in the documents i got the only mention was 30 day return policy and automatic 10% restocking fee if you return within that period in like new condition and with all parts (no mention of it being opened or not)

also, i don't know if there are any repercussions if i just hold onto my iphone for another week without activating? will they start autobilling my monthly plan or cancel it or freak out or just wait for me to call them to activate?

14-day thing for cingular? they made it seem like everything relied on the receipt...so 30-days from the receipt and that does apply to the iPhone. They told me I had 30 days for the iPhone. However, that is nuts if you have to pay a restocking fee if it is opened so I would check with them.

I kno everything Cingular and Apple just effs is all up because they have the power to tell Cingular "Kiss it or we're going to Verizon" haha. So usually they activate it in the store, so yes you will start getting billed, but iPhone since they didnt do it in the store for you...I have no clue! Sorry I couldnt be of more help! I have a complicated situation with switching numbers with the phone and then leaving back to college right on the 6th, etc....Good luck!
