I need to be careful or I’m going to wind up on an episode of hoarders but I couldn’t pass up this additional load of PowerPC Macs. Now to figure out what to do with them all.

Additional? How many have you got now then? 19 G5s, a G4 (what spec?) and 3 iMacs is a bit of a hoard as it is!

As to what you could do with them....Very slow cryptocurrency mining? Even slower renderfarm? LAN party for some old games?

Wow. That’s an impressive hoard!

You could power on all at once, then go watch your power meter spin like a top!

It is an opportunity for you to get them all humming along perfectly and sell them off at a decent price. You could extend our PowerPC userbase by another 19 23 people and put these wonderful Macs back to work.

:apple:

@Southern Dad buys PowerPC Macs in lots from business or schools getting rid of them in one shot. He has the equipment to take those lots in one go and the storage space to handle everything he picks up.

He puts his kids to work checking them and refurbing them with parts from like machines and then sells them. A side business he runs.

:D

What, is Southern Dad your neighbor? :)

I wonder if any of the tray loaders are revA?

A business would indicate that I actually made money on them. When my daughter was younger, and these computers were as obsolete we had a party. Each kid worked on a computer and got to take it home. Back then they still were good for playing music and surfing the web.

I wish. :D

EDIT: Oh yeah. At one point he was using them for coupon purposes. Something about the terms only allowing a coupon to be used once on a specific machine or something. Maybe I have that wrong.

Nope. You got it right. The TOS for coupon printing used to say 2 coupons per computer you own. Things have changed.

Heck, do any old key lime iBooks ever turn up? :D

This is outright robbery: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-Mac-...h=item23a18a0737:g:~WUAAOSw4ahbBeUc:rk:1:pf:0

MODS, not my auction!!!!

$1500 for a 2.0DC with 512mb RAM, a 160GB HD and Tiger. Talk about an Apple tax!

Considering how I was literally given my DP2.0 (June ’04) G5 (with a 20" ACD) for the steep, steep price of "hey can you get this thing home on your own… using public transit?", this auction speaks to some high silliness.

Keep an eye on Marketplace:Collectables in the near future. I have a Key Lime 366 MHz (less Apple logo on the lid), and also less the optical-drive lime cover - which are difficult to find. I dislike offering anything which is not near-perfect, but c'est la vie - these lime iBooks are certainly rare.
I've been experimenting with making Apple logos for the lid, not yet perfected this, but hopefully I will, and lime logo expected to be present when eventually on offer.

I agree.

I have a 2.3 DC, which is the higher version and that G5 was free and shipped to me free. I paid nothing. Yet this auction person wants $1500 for a less spec G5. Crazy.

Holy smokes! When you look at the G5s that have sold on eBay in the Completed Listings, they are at a much lower price point, plus the shipping has to be outrageous they weight a ton.

I rarely see any of the pre-Intel laptop computers. I do have several white MacBooks to dig out and see why they were unloaded.
