Anyone that needs office to get work done and enterprise. That is many users.

Some of us have figured out that we don't need office. I am rolling out a ton of devices and Office is a non factor. Need to look at your users and not blindly say Users need it when most poeple use 10% of the apps.

If editing docs is the only real work for an iPad, you have a very narrow view of reality.

Unfortunately, some of us have figured out we do need office.

Never said 'editing docs is the only real work for an iPad'.

I am glad for you but I work in the real work of business and we live on OFFICE! Word and Excel rule in my world! I have tried the Apple software and it does not cut it. Until then the iPad still remains a Internet appliance for me, nothing more.

Not sure how that conclusion is reached. I'd love to have Office on my iPad as it would reduce the number of times I have to fire up my laptop. But it's not like the iPad sits idle.

How are things at Microsft these days? You still employed there?

I work in the real world of business too. But mine is not stuck in the 1990's.

If you are happy with sub standard software and can make do in the world of real business, more power to you.

When you get out of high school and Mom and Dad are no longer supporting your lemon aid stand, you will understand:p

Stealth, if your intent is to polarize, I see what you are doing.

As for your argument...if you escalate below analyst or information generator you may soon learn that many of us work in decision making positions and I merely need to read and gather information so I can make decisions that drive the direction of my company. I don't work in excel or word for hours on end, I merely read them and make small edits and/or corrections. While I see the need for entry and mid level managers to sit at a cubical and live in office, I do not need to.

An improved office environment on the iPad would be helpful if only to get the best software currently available but I work fine in quick office HD and it allows me to be out in the real world making money instead of sitting in an office...I like to let close minded, fan boys like you count it for me. Good luck making it in this world with such a limited approach.

I'm hoping it released soon. As a corporate writer, I haven't found an existing Office app that can handle lots of revisions, edits, tracked changes etc. on the iPad. If someone has a suggestion, please let me know.

There's nothing available at the moment. Since February, the rumors of Office for iPad have died down. I hope we hear something positive soon.

I've been using CloudOn for my excel needs. It works pretty well for what I need it for (bills, budgeting, p90x tracking, etc). The drop box integration works nicely.

Really? Microsoft Word and Excel are still the documents of choice for every customer I have worked with over the past 20 years, from state governments down to small clients. Being stuck in the 90's has nothing to do with it. Having a common standard format does. And just about every non-Microsoft application has moderate to severe compatibility issues.

I'm sure MS is waiting for the iPad 3 news to settle before they announce something

I may be buckingnthentrend here, but having purchased three licences for MS Office for Mac, principally because of Word and Outlook, I won't be rushing out to buy an iPad version. Outlook for Mac is so full of bugs it's virtually unusable, and can't be trusted not to lose email. MS are well aware of it, but do nothing to correct the issues.

Word works okay, but so does Pages. I'm going to wait until many people have tried and tested this before I give MS any more of my cash.

100% agree.

My entire industry (civil engineering) does all documents and spreadsheets in MS Office. I either work within that standard or I create major hassles for clients and partner firms, which is simply unacceptable. The formatting problems created by translating a document to/from a different format would cause delays and added costs to a project. Also 90% of the time I have to view and use Track Changes functionality.

Where the iPad has done very well for me in a business setting is GoodReader. If I can work with PDFs and make my comments there, it is 100% compatible with Acrobat. But if I have to move to Office, I can only do that on a desktop or laptop, or for limited use, through a VNC/RDP app on the Ipad.
