touch wireless keyboard? No way.

I see, tablet/ultra portable, touchscreen ipod, other iphone models, remote control, perhaps even touch screen displays for home use? Now that'd be cool.

Dual Screen MacBook Pro

Does anyone remember the patent for a laptop that had a keyboard you could take out and replace with a music keyboard, a drawing tablet, etc.? Well if the keyboard was replaced by a second screen then all of this would be possible without the hassle of storing or buying multiple interfaces, and if this can be combined with the lower power LED screens to preserve battery life then great.
Surely this has to better than a tablet with a screen that is large enough to have an unobtrusive keyboard displayed on it?

People also used to send letters with a quill and ink. As technology evolves, so do the actions of most humans. I'll admit I'm a traditionalist in many respects, but why choose to repel the onset of change? "People" who like to push buttons will have a choice of phones on which to push buttons, for the time being, at least. Think of how much more flexible a touchscreen with variable user interface would be? You could turn it into almost any input device you wish!

No, I cant... People like to push buttons. Why do you think Apple changed from the touch-sensitive buttons of the 3G iPod to the clicky buttons of the 4G and 5G (click-wheel)? The same would go for a keyboard. It would be IMMENSELY frustrating trying to type on a completely flat, non responsive surface. Although I like the idea of it changing to a number pad or a mixing board. The problem would be with the keyboard.

Here's a "touch-screen device" we more than likely WILL see by August.

Touchscreen iMac kinda sorta.Only it will be 15 or 17".It will include the "new" iChat for receiving video calls from the iPhone.

Visualize...

An iPhone user wants to call home. The person touches the icon for the contact and presses "call".a couple seconds later the wall-mounted iMac Mobile rings.
One can either pick up one's iPhone and answer or if your in say the kitchen you just touch the incoming call icon.POOF! you're in a video call with the caller.

Or.

You want to watch a movie.
Open the movie icon and "touch" on the movie and it starts to stream to the AppleTV then to your HDTV AND the iMac Mobile.

This kind of stuff IS going to happen. It's merely a question of how far along Apple is in development.

Problem... iPhone camera is on the back... so that knocks out iChat... i don't understand why they didn't put PhotoBooth in, and just put the camera on the front... that would have been such a big hit.

The transition from present keyboards to touchpanels would be hard for many, including myself, but the potential for other applications is awesome.
When I see videos like this

the first thing I picture is a 30" imac with a multitouch screen. It may take a while before software catches up to where we see many apps taking full advantage of an interface like this, but who cares, it just looks too cool not to buy it. Remember how mesmerizing coverflow was the first time you saw it, this would trump that many times over.

just curious...what are the chances of them putting touch screen capability in the laptops like some others have ( i think maybe gateway or toshiba) where you can write notes on the screen with a stylus...any chance they might do it?

Touchscreens

My thinking is that the iPhone is what the RAZR was supposed to be. And that is a "super" product to turn people's attention to the company. It would give Apple a share in the cell phone business and then they would release cheaper phones and PDAs that all stem from this current phone. Apple is just testing the waters with the iPhone. GO APPLE:) :apple:

Sort of like the ModBook that was released at MacWorld by www.axiotron.com and to be marketed by OWC. It's due out April and is a build to order based on the MacBook. About 2,300 if I remember correctly.

I've been thinking about that ModBook for a while now.
The way it uses a MacBook Pro.re-designes it and installs OS X.Couldn't Apple sue them for that ?.One would think so.

Again, I think that this portends a paradigm shift for workstations in general.

I'm an artist by trade, have been digital since '84 but have missed the old drawing board since then. I want a touch sensitive screen with no lag, in the form of a traditional drawing board, that I can use a stylus and my near atrophied left hand interactively. I want to move the "paper" and draw at the same time like in the real world. A nice 42" "DIGITABLE" with legs or a stand to keep it at a drawing angle woud do nicely. The 24"iMac has been a godsend in the screen real estate area, but is still "old school". The whole look-up to draw-down wacom tablet world is about to be shook up.

Beyond the drawing stuff it could mimic any and all things like audio mixing boards, film editing etc. Even the clutter of my actual desk. This multi-touch sensitive screen stuff just makes me drool.

The "workstation" as a drawing board, or as I used to call it the "digi-table" is an obvious next step in the evolution of the professional studio. Once the ergonomics of the size/flexibility of the work area are worked out the possibilities are endless.

Exciting times indeed.

Apple have a damn good design team and i'm sure it would be on the agenda to ease the transition. They could release something like a keyboard plate to place on top of the MultiTouch screen so people who want/need tactile feedback still have that option.

Touch Screen iMac

Seems to me the most obvious enhancement to the iMac would be a touch screen with a keyboard appearing on the white area below the screen for when you need a keyboard for occasional use, after all there is a wall mount bracket for the 24" iMac. Just imagine one on the wall in say the kitchen where you could call up weather, tv, movies etc, after all apple is keen to take over the home.:)
