Why people put so much stock into reviewers (seemingly only this year) is beyond me. Some reviewer drops his phone and it's drop prone? Huh? because thousands of people don't drop their 5S (and previous models) every single day?

Oh so you should buy the sleek phone and also hide it inside a box so that it is safe. Why would you say Use a case, its almost as Jobs saying you are holding it wrong.

I agree. If the "moral of the story" is that the iPhone 6 series absolutely *HAVE* to be used with a case, then either Walt is wrong and a klutz, or that's a serious design flaw of the phone. Now, it may very well be that Walt *IS* a klutz, but I know just by feeling the 6 that the phone is not grippy.

The metal is high-class, but is it really the ideal material to use on a phone? That's really my basic question.

FWIW, I bought a bumper case and it's a nice case, but it still diminishes the ideal way to use the phone. You can't smoothly swipe your finger across the screen when you have any sort of case covering the sides of the phone.

I'm thinking I might experiment with some sort of grippy tape. Otherwise, I may just take my chances and use it naked and hope for the best.

Have people forgotten that iPhones have been metal and glass since the original iPhone (except for the awkward polycarbonate period of the 3G and 3GS)

Not trying to be apologetic here, but the plastic on my note 2 would actually get very slippery if you got any dirt on it. That phone was also almost instantly recognized as a "phone that'll break if you look at it the wrong way" and mine had a couple of nasty drops and the screen didn't break.

Every time your phone hits the floor it's going to be rolling the dice. 🙁

Aside from preventing scratches and making the phone less slippery, unless you buy some super thick case I doubt there will be much drop protection at all.

I can ALMOST say the same thing. I did drop my 4S into a urinal once. Couple of days in rice and all was well though. Some guy visiting from overseas bought it on Christmas day a few years ago.

This is why I don't buy used phones lol

I don't think these new iPhones are "drop prone" nor are the users necessarily at fault either. You have to remember that most of the iPhone 6 and 6 plus users are used to 4" or smaller displays which were great for 1 handed use. These newer larger iPhones however, are no longer 1 handed use friendly. I bet everyone is trying to use them 1 handed just like the older iPhones there for dropping them. I can use my Note 3 1 handed fairly easy because I'm used to it, but at first not so much. Plus it's really a 2 handed device with its size. I haver a feeling that not all 6 plus users are going to be happy with a phablet.

I'd say that that's what makes it drop prone. It's NOT good for one handed use.

Picked mine up earlier today and so far I'm extremely pissed off at Apple for not giving me an option that provided the new features with the old screen size. Apple screwed the pooch on this one IMHO. I want to try Apple Pay and other features enough to stick it out though. I guess eventually my hands will adjust. But I still don't understand why they couldn't keep a 4" model and add a new larger 5" model. I'll be buying a case for the first time in years. Stupid.

I know many would disagree, but they should have kept the design language of the 5/5S with the current screen sizes. I love that Apple is finally offering larger screen sizes on its phones, but I just don't really love the new design language.

Well, I think they could have added some sort of texture to the sides back. It could even just be etched/ribbed metal, or maybe some sort of tacky rubber/plastic. They wouldn't need to have the entire case made out of the stuff, so they could still have it be mostly metal.

As for the glass...I don't know. They want to make these devices super-thin, and there's probably no way that they can have them as thin as they do and have a super-thin plastic or glass screen that will be more shatter-resistant.
