None of these keyboards are working well for me. The Jelly Bean one lags badly when I type fast. I think I'll end up using the Google one for now because it's the best of the worst. I really prefer the iOS keyboard.

I'll ask this here because I don't want to start yet another thread. Is their a Twitter app that shows me a number with respect to how many new tweets since I last opened? Echofon on iOS did this but the Android version does not nor does the official Android Twitter app.

I feel your pain. None of the Android keyboards are up to par with the iOS keyboard, but the Google keyboard now downloadable in the Play Store is the closest one yet.

what's not up to par?

to me the iOS keyboard is really bad with no multiple words and next word prediction. I need only type 2 letters and one of the required word is predicted. on ios sometimes you need to type all the letters before you get correct word. and ios auto correction screws up quite often leading to unintended mistake.

even the worst of Android keyboards are better than ios.

The best one isn't available at the moment...Falcon Pro.

My second favorite would be Plume...then Tweet Lanes and TweetCaster.

None of these hold a candle to Falcon Pro, though. Unfortunately, Twitter feels so threatened by FP that they've revoked their access by using the stupid token rule as their excuse. Thank goodness I've got a Titanium Backup of Falcon so I can continue using it.

This argument is getting annoying.

Typing a couple of letters and then tapping a suggested word is not always going to be faster than typing out the entire word completely. In most cases, it will actually be slower.

There are two reasons it is actually slower, and that is because it requires looking and thinking.

We are so used to typing on our phones, we never really think about typing. We just think about the words. We don't think about where each letter is or which letter to type next. If we want to type "hello", we just type it without thinking about it. But if we want to use prediction, we type "hel", then we stop, look above the keyboard to see if "hello" is even there. At this point, our brains essentially have to calculate an if/else statement. If hello is listed, we look to see if it is the first, second, or third predicted word. And since the keyboard is always adapting to our ever changing usage, its position will not always be in the same place. Meaning we have to look to find "hello" then we have to tap on its position which will vary. However, if "hello" is not listed, we would type another "l" and run through that whole process again. And the worst part is that depending on how many letters we type, how recently we used the word, and how often we used the word (which by the way all 3 of these things are constantly changing throughout the time we use a keyboard), the position of the desired word will change. So by using this method, we are required to make a conscious effort on a single word. When in reality, I shouldn't have to. Even while typing this, I am not thinking about letters, position, or anything like that. Words just pop up in our minds and then muscle memory takes over. We don't think about the letters we type, we just type them. Having to think slows us down.

Or we could just type the word "hello" much quicker and be done with it. But whatever. You use your phone however you want.

Do any of the android keyboards autocorrect when two words are typed but the spacebar is accidentally not pressed. This happens to me often on my iphone, however the iphone always detects that there are two words and automatically adds the missing space. No android keyboard i've used thus far has been able to do this.

Sorry, but autocorrect on iOS is a joke. Ever wonder why people post funny iOS autocorrect stuff on the internet? I hate using any iDevice because the keyboard and the autocorrect feature sucks so bad.

That said, you do realize that you have a personal dictionary built into Android to assist you? This way, those acronyms like CPU and GPU aren't messed up, or specialty words that you use don't get altered. Of course, a 3rd party API needs to be coded to accept it.

You may want to look at Kii Keyboard to fit your needs. It also auto inserts apostrophes. :)

Actually a lot of those sites use a generic iPhone template, there's no way to tell if it's iOS or not unless it's a direct screenshot.

That said, I've experienced pretty much on-par autocorrect wise on the iOS keyboard and the Android keyboard (4.1 Jelly Bean on N7)

Kii and Swiftkey both do this.

As does the default Android keyboard.

Not sure what you're talking about.

You don't select words from the suggestion bar until you have to. The only time I type by selecting words from the suggestion bar is when Swiftkey predicts full sentences for me. It's rare, but it happens. Otherwise, I just thumb or swipe away just like any other keyboard.

The suggestion bar is there to help you. If you don't find it helpful, you don't have to literally use it to type.

I don't understand what the problem is.

Same, I really do not even know it is there.

Seriously. I don't know anyone who types the way Straus is describing unless they actually wanted to. If you're typing for speed, you don't have to use the suggestion bar.

How long have you been using Android for?

That's not the point. I'll never use the suggested word method. I can type extremely quickly by simply selecting the letters. Having to keep an eye on the suggested words will distract me from the actual letters themselves.

For your twitter I would say using Plume. It keeps a count of unread and new ones.

I will say you are the first person I have seen that likes the iOS keyboard over swype or swiftkey. The 2 that most people go to.

you can set swiftkey up to always use the middle word on a space. That makes it behave the most like iOS keyboard that you like. I have my spacebar for example always insert the prediction.

I doubt I'm the first person. Also I don't like to swipe to type. I'll try Plume thank you.

I don't want to use suggested words. I can type incredibly fast and accurately on the iOS keyboard.

The suggest word in the middle can be set up to behave pretty much like iOS autocorrect. For example I have my SwiftKey set up in rapid mode. This means it is much more heavily waits the words based on length than what letters have been entered. It assumes Iake errors and I am more going to relay in it doing the corrections for me. Honestly I do not even really look at the suggestion any more.
It just has to be set up. It gets better as it has time to learn your exact style and how your words tend to flow.
You can speed up its learning by letting it go threw your text messages email, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

If it doesn't require me to ever look up at the suggested words then I would consider it.

Plume looks great by the way. Thanks for suggesting it. I prefer having a count of how many new tweets have appeared since my last visit. Echofon does this on iOS but in another example of the Android version being inferior it does not.

lol those are mostly fake. I was pretty frustrated with autocorrect last year but iOS6 somehow fixed my issues where words I commonly used would be corrected to some bs, but it works great now.

SwiftKey does this very well. I happen to make a lot of errors on a touch screen, and I do notice that when I miss the space, SwiftKey predicted that I meant to type multiple words.

I think everyone has their preference in keyboards. Also, when you are used to typing on one keyboard, all other keyboards that are laid out differently feel foreign. I'm the same way with physical keyboards as well. I love the Nokia N97 keyboard and all other physical keyboard, particularly BB feel foreign to me.

The middle predicted word in SwiftKey is generally the correct one for me. For a while, I altered my typing to select the middle word, so I was always looking at it when I finish a word. I recently changed to just using space to select the predicted word as it was almost always correct, even when I make errors. It's only really bad errors that I have to retype.

That's not the point.

It's exactly the point and the fact that you won't mention how long makes me think its a very short duration.

Keep it up... keep trying to use Android in exactly the same was as you used iOS for all those years. Fight the Android way of doing things and have a closed mind and then you can make constant posts in this subforum about how Android sucks just like half the other people here.

Open your mind and try things and you might find they become second nature - you might even start to appreciate Android for all the ways in which it is different from iOS.

Jesus Christ dude chill out.

Forcing myself to type using suggested words will slow me down. End of story. It takes away from being able to quickly tap letter after letter. I'm not going to change. I don't need to. I can type blazing fast on my iOS keyboard with the rare error. I'm actually doing really well now with the stock Google keyboard.

You need to not be so defensive and argumentative. Why the hell would I start writing anti-Android posts? I like my S4 Active a great deal. Chill the hell out.

I too agree: I miss iOS keyboard a great deal. I I've tried all aforementioned keyboards and they really just aren't as user friendly.

I'm using TouchPal X, which is the best thing I've used so far but still not as easy to use. What really irks me is the auto add space feature when I am filling out login details it'll add a space to my login handle after I select it from the list. Really annoying. At least it lets me switch between input languages rather quickly.. Android's native system of pulling down notification bar to switch inputs is really really cumbersome.
