Honestly, I think Apple could do a MUCH better job explaining what Apple intelligence can, or can’t, do. I’m familiar with using Claude, GPT, etc for analytics purposes and I honestly couldn’t even tell you what Apple
Intelligence is even for. It can proofread a paper or make an appointment, I think? It’s totally useless as far as I’m concerned. And I’m certainly one of those people that’s pretty brand loyal to Apple, but I’m to the point of looking elsewhere. iPhone is beyond stale at this point and I truly believe nothing good will come of future Apple products until Tim Cook is gone. Leading the industry, innovation, and excitement are three areas that Apple has completely lost their way on.

Problem is release cadence: Apple is stuck with annual releases. AI world moves with 10x+ cadence.

Where Apple should make a difference quickly is how models can interface with their OSs: Now AI companies are moving fast by building on top of Apple accessibility APIs. That does not offer great UX.

That is a problem, Apple trying to claim all the things they can provide against AI in advance at WWDC sets them up for fumbles and no touchdowns because of this annual releases with previews. Its been working fine up to now, but it doesn't allow Apple to blossom when the conditions are right in new directions that are needed. Siri is the biggest offender, Apple claiming sugar gumdrops and magic sprinkles at WWDC doesn't cut it any more. :D

Anyone who doesn't use AI has either not understood the functions or hasn't informed themselves enough about what it can do. I'm not talking about Siri with Apple intelligence. I'm talking about ChatGPT, for example. Since I started using ChatGPT Pro, Google has been a relic of the past for me! First find out what AI can really do and then judge it. I use AI or ChatGPT every day and certainly not for playing games or doing pointless things.

I usually upgrade every 2 years and this year was gonna be the year I “UPGRADE NO MATTER WHAT!”… then I saw the keynote and the big feature they were using to sell this year’s iPhone was BS AI? I didn’t get a new iPhone this year and I’m gonna wait until next year. This year’s iPhone was the most noting upgrade of all time

Apple will deliver what they claim. It’s all about the timeframe.

They could also simply not be interested in it

That's an option as well
Of course, that’s definitely possible. I might have expressed myself a bit unclearly. What I meant is that not trying something and/or speaking poorly about it or saying ‘I don’t need that’ isn’t exactly the best approach.

That’s like saying you don’t need a smartphone because your old flip phone is enough – without ever trying it or realizing all the amazing things a smartphone can do.

There is. With a subscription.
i know, this is what I was on about, that Ai is not always right, i think that what I was on about, it is a few posts away now :)
I know someone who gave it a go just to have a nose and see how good it was, by all accounts it is not that great.

Why do you update every couple of years? Just trying to get around this thing why people need to update their phone so often. A few years ago I can understand people doing it, like computers they got better, and it was worth updating, but these days, is it?

My android phone is around 4 years old now and still going strong, it still works fine and still do what is required. Sure, if there was a function a new phone did that I needed, I would update. but what new functions do new phones do apart from Ai and in my case 5G, not that i need 5G and 5G is rubbish in many places anyway.

You can't really improve much on photo and video with phones due to the small sensor, anything that is done is improve is digital and don't really improve it. I compared video taken with my 4-year-old Oppo to a pretty new iPhone, no difference.

The same with computers these days, i use to update my computer every couple of years, now my PC is 7 years old ish, and still works fine, I only use it for games these days as I use the mac mini for everything else.
It was last year that I did look at updating my PC and decided in the end to go for a Mac.

Not knocking you, just wondering what you hope to get from a new phone?

That is nice for you. I donlt use Google Search anyway, I use Duck duck go.
As for ChatGPT and other AI like it, I don't feel the need to use it, as I really don't want to talk to a computer as if it is human and seeing all the mistakes and problems with this LLM stuff, I don;lt think it is that reliable.
the other thing is it is also putting more of our data into the hands of god knows who and what are they going to do with it. Also, looking at who is or was involved with OpenAi, i really want nothing to do with it.

Someone else who think that we should all have the same thing. i know a couple of people with non-smarrt phones and they happy with them, they have no need for a smartphone, all they use a phone for is what a phone should be used for, to call people. Just a shame, phone networks don't realise that and offer these people voice only services without data.

i hate this pushing and prodding that goes on.,

In Time. AI Will be more useful What we are using today is just the beginning
i doubt it will be in my time, maybe in the next 50 years, when they learn to stop it hallucinating and sending out false information. Also, stop it using copyright material. also, don't forget the enormous amount of energy that is being used to run it

So you didn’t think the 14 to the 16 was a big enough spec bump, but the 12 to the 14 was? The 12 to the 14 was only bs e-sat.

To deny each of us has some “Elon” in us is to deny basic human nature.
Even Steve Jobs was kind of a dick too. However his motive was tied to his company mostly.

Elon is aspiring to be a douche on many levels, and his ego is out of control.

I’m ready to become illuminated with AI.

So, so, so, can I expect to see fewer and less frequent HomeKit “No Response” messages? If not, why not?

But, but, but, will my iPhone’s battery life be improved? If not, why not?

Please, please, please, can I now not be subjected to the growing onslaught of spam messaging? Spam email? Spam everything? If not, why not?

Will I be able to better avoid the constant deluge of advertising on websites? In emails? In texts? On streaming services? If not, why not?

If none of the above life annoyances can be mitigated by AI, er, what’s the point? Too big an ask?
