So which IM client do you think is the most popular in your country?

It seems like everyone in Russia uses ICQ.

I use, but not so much anymore, AIM. And throughout my whole time in computing, I have NEVER used ICQ. Not that I don't like it, I don't even know it. It's just that my friends had AIM from the beginning.

Now that I think of it, there's needs to be another popular IM service besides the ones by AOL or Microsoft. I know there's others out there, but they didn't seem to catch on as big as those two did. But I think texting blew IM out of the water anyways. I text waayyy more than I IM. I only get on iChat for video chatting nowadays.

Do ppl in europe use MSN? I've known foreign exchange students who didn't have AIM but all had MSN.

In America: AIM.

I know a few people using Google Talk (i.e.: Jabber/XMPP), but they're all fellow computer-science folk; all of the nontechnical folk use AIM, alas.

Some of my friends just log into Gmail and chat with their friends via their email account. Their friends online are listed on the left panel, just like a chat program. It's quite handy, but I never use it.

I'm in the UK and MSN is by far the most popular. I dont know anyone who doesnt have some kind of MSN/Windows Live account. Although because the AV on the Mac sucks, several of my friends who use Macs also have a AIM account for iChat

In the UK MSN is definitely dominant. There used to be a few years and years ago that would use AIM, but it didn't last.

Quite a few use gmail accounts with MSN Messenger, but that's about it.

Canada: MSN hands down.

I'm also in the whole "Aww! I can't use iChat" thing.

Here in the UK its MSN, although some people I know who have Macs have AIM or .Mac for iChat... A lot of people I know also use Bebo mail, basically Bebo's own mail system (Bebo is a POS!)

Here in Norway MSN is quite dominant, though many early IM adopters has an ICQ account or two (but few PC users actually use more than their (newer) MSN accounts, unfortunately).

Korea -

South: MSN or... omg Windows Live Messenger ooohhh!! People here also use Cyworld for MySpace/Facebook and Naver instead of Google.

North: One way propaganda radio :)
