Coming from an S5 in the one day of use I consider this a significant upgrade for me. Few things that I noticed so far:
  • Brighter always on display is resulting in me twisting wrist less and not activating screen
  • 15 min charge took me from 74-94% after a workout
  • Faster app installing
  • S5 and 53 were fine but bigger screen is making precise clicking a bit easier

Everyone saying how this is the minor update to S6. That’s nonsense. This feels like the largest and most significant upgrade ever. That screen is just gorgeous and huge. When you see it in person you will understand. Very very happy with S7 so far. Now if they could only upgrade the battery life.
I've seen it in person and put it on my wrist. It's nice but I'll keep my S6 until new health features are added

This is a HARD no from me as battery life trumps all else on a smartwatch....not too smart is it having to charge it every day if it has sleep tracking. ridiculous!

Agree that battery life is a joke. But screen is awesome.

Went from a S5 to a S7, and the difference is significant. Raise to access Siri works much better, and the watch is more responsive--you get a HRM read quicker, apps install much faster. Always On Display is brighter by a big margin--so much saw that I confused the low power AOD with the wake display. Screen is substantially clearer and larger, especially if you are starting to lose your eyesight. For me, that's huge; it means I can read stuff I couldn't read before. Fast charging means you can now wear it as a sleep tracker. And finally, if you care about horology, you know the face is at the core of a watch. The S7 is closer to a real watch than any previous versions. (And of course the new O2 sensor is cool.)

Agree 100% with this (also coming from a Series 5).

A new health sensor and a little bit faster CPU and I reckon it would have been hands down the biggest upgrade.

as it stands, I'm not quite sure on the biggest upgrade. 3 to 4 was pretty big I guess.

I upgrade every year and I'm very happy with the S7. The extra mm of screen really does make a difference. No more fat-fingering my passcode, I can even type on the new keyboard with decent accuracy. It is definitely faster too, apps install faster, menus open faster, etc. I haven't had one failed O2 reading yet which was my main complaint with my S6.

Battery life is as expected for watch I've only had for one day that's still indexing and adjusting to my usage. I woke up with 71% today, I usually woke up with about 75-80% on my S6/SE, but I expect it to improve over the next week.

Almost all „reviews (i.e. hot takes) that went on about „no new features“ missed one very important point: that the bigger display makes (almost) all existing features better and more useable. Point in case:
Other than the legacy Hermès watch faces. 😊

Probably not, but I think the difference is with a watch, the screen is the most important part, whereas, with a mac, the internals/ports/keyboard/trackpad matter a lot more
Exactly. If Apple put an M1 in an Apple Watch, what difference would it make (other than shorter battery life)? The bigger screen is a big deal. I’m sure future models will add more sensors, etc. but I think the screen has basically hit the maximum size for the form factor.

If you want to use sleep tracking you could also keep the old watch and wear it at night, while the new one is charging.

Just posted this on another thread…

For me it’s not a worthy upgrade.
My son received a AWS7 and I placed it and my AWS4(Hermès edition) on my wrist and case/screen size was negligible… along with the current features that would “interest” me to update (ie O2 sensor, AOD). I think I can hold off till AWS8 , perhaps another Hermès. I use an Oura ring for sleep tracking, it has a temperature sensor too.

I’m a “larger” guy (6’3”, 245), so 44/45 mm look fine on my wrist.

Once again…that’s just my take. I understand each person has their own reasons for upgrading or not.

Fast charging does kinda make up a little for the battery life.
Maybe, if you did not have to use the Apple puck to fast charge. Such a dumb move, when I have a magsafe duo and Belkin 3-1 Magsafe charger. Would rather use those than have another single adapter.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's the biggest update ever, but I definitely don't agree when people say it's a minor update. It feels way more significant that the S6.

How often do people use their ECG or Blood Oxygen app?

Every day if they have a heart issue.

I don't think battery life is a joke. I think people need to start having realistic expectations when it comes to the Apple Watch. The watch does so much more than other watches. The technology is not where it needs to be to have the kind of battery life many here are expecting with the watch.

Exactly. Oh no, I have to charge my watch for 8 minutes to get 8 hours of sleep tracking. Oh the horror.

And even if you don't have heart issues, it's good to have the peace of mind that the sensors are there if you need them.
But this can be done on a S6 also… granted it’s older tech, but worked fine just a year ago…

Yep, even when you compare it to Samsung's flagship Watch4 the battery life is around the same. Samsung claims 40 hours lol, reviewers disagree.

Well obviously I'm talking about people coming from an older model. Most people don't upgrade every year.
got it! I assumed someone was trying to justify jumping from S6 to S7 … not that there’s anything wrong with it. Hell I’m having a hard time justifying S4 to S7 after using my son’s S7 for a min…. The S4 ekg satisfies my health OCD well enough, but I use a separate pulse ox for O2 readings.
I’m holding out for an S8 since I prefer the Hermès edition, and yearly upgrades on those is not prudent for me.

We reached iterative upgrades fairly quickly with the Apple Watch. I’m not sure what people are expecting. I love my S7, downgraded to an aluminum because I don’t really see the value in the SS for the cost but other than that this thing is beautiful.
