Since I have a buyer for my iMac G5 and a 20-inch viewsonic handy, I'm waiting to see what the Mac Pro is going to look like and WHEN it'll be available.
this fall, from many in silicon valley judging from what people say/guess on the street, seems to be the logical time for a larger macbook and/or a compact macbook pro (12")...or maybe something totally new (but i doubt that)
january 20007 seems to be the oft mentioned date for a professional apple/intel tower and adobe's cs 3...it would make for one of the most anticipated and memorable macworld sf meetings in years
I really doubt it will be then as MacWorld clashes with CES, they want all the press coverage that they can. Apple'll release it another time even if it's a week later/earlier.
It should also be taken into account that Panther was available for something like 8 or 9 months, when Tiger was first presented a. If Leopard is presented the first time in August, that will be 15 or 16 months after the release of Tiger. So they had already more time to develop it.
Also Apple has to chose, when they want to present it first, according to what features they implement. Tiger brought a lot of low level frameworks to be used by applications like all the "core" stuff and spotlight. So application developers had to be informed early, so they can let their applications make use of these new features. We don't really know, what is coming for leopard, but things might be a bit different here, which means they can announce the features later. But this is pretty much speculation.
Then I thought the general expectation was for Leopard to be released end of this year or beginning of next, which might still work out, if they announce it now.
