Hey guys,

I have a couple Eufy cams. HomeKit only allows you to record footage when motion is detected. I was wondering, is that decision made but the Apple TV as a hub, or does the camera itself signal HomeKit to start recording? Often times I notice I had passed in front go the camera and Home App doesn't have any trace it. What do you guys think?

The decision is made by the hub (Apple TV or HomePod). All the camera does is provide the video feed and the hub processes that information.

It's been a while since I've used my Eufy cameras with HomeKit, but I believe you can still use Eufy's app/AI detection alongside HomeKit. They are still separate though. HomeKit may detect something that Eufy didn't, or vice versa. You can also have them record 24/7 locally through the Eufy app. Then you have something to go back to just in case neither apps detected an event.

Well the hubs (I have HomePods and an ATV) clearly suck at this. I open the door and leave, and yet there’s nothing in the Home App.
I’ll have to go a 24/7 recording by the camera itself.

In the Home app, select your camera and go to settings>Recording Options>More Options. See what you have selected there.

I use Record when specific motion is detected, and select all of them (sometimes I will disable one).

It depends on HOW you have your HomeKit cameras setup to record.

If you go into your camera settings in the Home app -> recording options -> (select either home or away), is the option set to Stream or Stream & Allow Recording?

Both options sound just like they sound. Stream wont record anything to HKSV but Stream & Allow Recording will record to HKSV and you can fine tune it even more to record everything that passes in front of the camera or only specific things like Humans, Animals etc...

Personally, I leave my front door camera set to record everything that moves in front of it but I only have it notify me of specific events like people, animals and packages. That way, it's setup to be recording 24/7 but I'm only notified of the events I only care about and so far, it's worked great.

I don’t think you understood my question. Of course it’s set to record, hence my confusion about who decides it’s time to record, the camera or the hub. I wanted to know whose algorithms are to blame for missing footage. (Eufy’s or Apple’s)

It’s Saturday. I wanted to check the recordings for something that happened earlier today. Now I see that there’s been “no activity” since Wednesday. It’s ridiculous. Living room and entrance, no activity for three days. I am really pissed!!
