It appears that most (all?) HomeKit motion sensors use Bluetooth and batteries. Which presumably means it has to be close enough to a hub. Which won't work for me. Are there any HomeKit motion sensors that connect via wifi and can be plugged into the wall?

The only ones I heard of that are plugged in are the ones integrated with cameras. As far as connectivity, I would highly recommend splurging for an Aqara hub, and then getting their motion sensors. The hub is not that expensive but best of all once you have the hub, the motion sensors (and other Aqara sensors) are some of the cheapest priced HomeKit ones on the market and they run on Zigbee instead of Bluetooth. The child devices (sensors) are small in comparison to others. You also get a HomeKit self monitoring alarm with the Aqara hub. Batteries seemingly last forever on them. No issues with Aqara stuff at all. Just my 2c.

I would agree with Itinj24's assessment.

You can also get an Aqara G2H camera which is a hub for nearly the same price. I bought it on sale when it was the same price. The camera has been excellent for me. You can also add Aqara devices directly to Homekit without using their app. However, you won't be able to update firmware without the app.

An added plus is Aqara's customer service. One of my motion sensors arrived with a "low battery" warning. I emailed Aqara and they immediately shipped a new device. The batteries are less than $1 each if you buy in bulk, and are rated for 2 years.
