Moto 360

I don't know why in the picture the 360 looks so huge next to my old watch, it's really not. I'll have to measure them when I'm near a ruler. I think it's because the pebble band isn't flexible so the watch was raised up a lot closer to the camera.

It truly is a good looking watch. Yes, it's big but I'm a fan of large watches. Just hope real world battery life turns out to be better than early reports.

That looks really good. I like your counter top too, is that granite?

Just $5? I bought a Pebble band for $20 on Amazon. Guess, I need to look for one in BB instead. Did you get a discount or something since its $20 online?

Got mine yesterday, really liking it so far, but battery may be a deal breaker. Took it off the charger this morning around 9am, its now 10pm and I have 27% battery, but I have hardly used it. I have that screen setting turned off too. I will keep testing it these next couple weeks before I decide to take it back or not, I have 30 days.

But its a real shame if I can't get better battery from it, as its an incredible piece of Tech, every time I see the display light up it feels like something from a movie or from the future, the design is absoluty incredible, and its blended in just fine, no one has even noticed it other than my wife because I showed it to her.

I'd like to hear more real-world reports from you guys without holding back on the usage. I'd be looking at 16 hours from 6am to 10pm minimum.

Maybe someone can do a 100 to 0 test by using it til it's depleted and report how much (roughly) SOT you're experiencing.

Also, is it correct that it must be charged using the Moto charger only (so I couldnt just charge it during the day without taking the charger with me or buying a new one for a second location).
 
I'd love to hear reports also on how it is in general to use one of these bad boys! (Not just the battery life.) How often do you actually find it useful? What do you use it for? Etc.

And Spinedoc, I agree with the others, that shiz looks pretty cool! :cool:

Not sure if anyone else has said this, but that's kinda impossible. The Moto 360 is for Android phones while the iWatch will be for iPhones.

Now in my opinion the Moto 360 will not become obsolete until the second gen or if another Android Wear device comes out that truly beats it. However the iWatch will not make it obsolete as you are comparing two different ecosystems.

For example, a cow does its own thing and horse does their own thing, yet they are both animals. However you can't say that a horse makes a cow obsolete, they are two different beasts entirely.

People will compare the iWatch to ____ Android Wear device, but in reality it makes no difference because these are merely accessories to our phones.

We don't compare a case for a Galaxy phone to an iPhone case because they are ecosystem specific. This is one thing I do not like about product launches like this. They can both be great watches but that does not mean that one beats the other. The decision on which one you use will be decided by what ecosystem you are invested in.

That's my rant for today!


My watch will be delivered on Wednesday. Excited!

From just one day of use, and from several anecdotal reports on XDA the battery life is not as bad as reviewers made it out to be, but it's not as good as other smartwatches either. With the screen on all the time it will last about 12 hours, with the screen off unless you turn it on it will last about 20 hours. Obviously this will fluctuate depending on your use.

Charging, you can use any Qi charger. The flat one I use for my Note 3 works fine. There are some anecdotal reports of some chargers overheating the watch, but no explosions reported yet lol, still I'd be careful.

I agree with this, at least for the moment.

However, I can see them being such a visible and useful accessory (much more than a case or other phone accessory) that they could quite possibly be the determining factor in which phone people buy. At least for some people.

I think that's compelling reason enough for these companies to race to get it right. The 360 no doubt looks good and I'd bet quite a number of buyers like it first and foremost for looks. At least Moto did right and made it for all Android devices unlike Samsung.

It's an interesting few years in the making. We'll see if smart watches take off (I think they will) and by just how much they relegate our phones to merely reside in our pocket or bag.

Somewhat agree, but let's say the iwatch can do x and its the most amazing thing ever, you know sooner or later an android wear watch will also do x down the road, so in a way the iwatch having x feature made the 360 obsolete. Now, I'm not sure what that feature will be, the 360 is incredible, but we'll find out in a couple of hours.

Also, to follow up my previous post, my 360 was at 4% when I went to sleep last night at 2am, so it made it from 9am-2am, about 17hrs. That would'nt be bad if I had used it heavily, but I only used it to tell time and to read emails and mark them read or delete. So just as my notification center and pedometer. Other than that though, I didn't use any voice control feature, didn't send any texts, didn't use google now, didn't use navigation, nore load up any app. And that's what worries me, if the only way I can make it through a day is to not use any of the extra features, than what's the point of spending $250?

Took it off the charger this morning at 8am, let's see how it does day 2.

Something wrong somewhere. I easily get through the day with it after charging overnight. 27% hardly using it doesn't seem right.

Too early to troubleshoot, maybe XDA's thread will help.

As I see it folks, this will take some strain off your smartphone usage and you will get more time on its battery. So the two in tandem should work well.
 
One thing that tells me Motorola nailed the 360's fashion sense is I'm not compelled mess with it 24/7 to justify it being on my wrist. The fact it looks nice is good enough reason for it being on my wrist.

Different ecosystems but same product market so they compete on feature parity. Apple puts out a retina display, suddenly phones with pixelated displays are obsolete, regardless of ecosystem. Samsung/Android popularizes the phablet, now a 4 inch iPhone is obsolete.

It's not cow vs horse. Those animals don't serve the same purpose. It's 2 different breeds of horses and if the first horse is too slow to take me from A to B, I can switch to the other.
 
My thoughts are the 360 is kind of like the iPhone 5s. Incredible aesthetics, good functionality, poor battery life.

Surprised anyone would say that 360 is better than Apple Watch. First of all Apple thought it all through. New interface that makes sense. No cut off texts and very customizable. I will bet money on Google and others going back to the drawing board using Apple Watch as a template.

As a Moto 360 thread, this isn't the place for in-depth discussion of the the :apple: watch and I don't want to completely derail the discussion but, I think it's fair to make a brief comment.

I still find the Moto 360 more aesthetically appealing (though I don't dislike the :apple: watch design) but I'm really impressed by the :apple: watch functionality so far. Now for the real nity-grity...specs and battery life please.

I'd have to agree.

My first thought on seeing the Apple Watch was: it's not circular...hmm.

Second: the UI seems better thought out.

Third: what about the all-important battery life? No mention which doesn't bode well.

I think I want a 360 more after seeing the Apple creation.

Moto must be pleased.
