e815 to isync on Panther via USB?

Hello all,

New to posting here, I was searching for some info to influence my upcoming purchase. It goes between getting the v710 and e815 thru Verizon. I'm currently running a PMG4 Quicksilver w/ 10.3.9 (no BT) and want to get the e815 now. I plan on upgrading to a Powerbook this winter to sync via BT. My question is, until I upgrade, will I be able to sync the e815 to my PowerMac via USB, as the v710 will?

I want to take advantage of being able to sync now with my current Mac now, but don't want to get an older phone (v710) for the next two years. Or should I just get the e815 now and wait till I get the Powerbook to be able to sync? I'm kind of stuck in technology pergatory, inbetween an older OS and new phone hardware.

If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appeciated.

Thanks,

kloog

a few things to consider:

In general, get the latest and greatest, esp. if you are locked in for two years. However, it depends a bit on where you live, and if you want to use the EVDO highspeed network for videos and/or highspeed tethering. If you just want to sync your address book and calendar, use a USB cable.

710 has analog and digital network capability, so if you live in the boonies... also it might be cheaper. I have the 815, and I love it. I use with PB with bluetooth. You also might want to consider/have to go(ing) to tiger (native sync support).

Personally, I say the e815.

Because of this Thread, I went out and bought the e815. It was just what I was looking for. . .

Works great / natively wiith tiger and iSync 2.1

I would imagine there would be a way to at least get the USB transfers working with Panther and iSync 2.0 (don't know for sure however).

Search the Howard Forums, you may get some better answers.

Search under the Carriers->Verizon->Motorla sections here

Can some one compare the 815 to the razr. i heard on howard forums that the razr will come to verizon. SHould i hold off or get the 815
Anyone try to transfer mp3 ring tones and graphics (wallpapers) to the phone via the email way or through a transflash card
Thanks

Losing weeks

Even though iSync works great via Bluetooth (Tiger, iSync 2.1, E815), when I sync I lose everything prior to the current week (on the phone) even though in the E815 setup I have chosen "Delete After: Never". Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas?

Mine does that too. I just assume it is a space saver.

HI,
I have an e815. Love the phone. I have an older Thinkpad (Ti-Book) that I'm pretty sure doesn't have BlueTooth. Is there a cable hook up available from the e815 to my mac so I can sync my address book, etc.

Thanks.

There is a usb data cable for the e815. I'm don't know if it allows you to use isync though.

I needed it to hack my phone. I purchased it from ebay for about $15 dollars with shipping.

Option two is to buy a usb bluetooth adapter.

Just did at Best Buy. Now where do I go from here?? Now, do I need special software from Motorola??

Humm, Actually, it worked. Not sure why?? It didn't before dinner, but it did after??? Go figure.

The razr is much thinner and feels stronger than the e815. However, there is no way it will ever make it to Verizon. The razr is designed for a gsm network and will not work on Verizons. You would have to completely redo the entire internals of the razr and the hardware needed to connect to the Verizon network would not fit in the razr. So no way.

From a "cool" point of view, the RAZR is unmatchable.

But from a quality and features point of view, go with the E815.

The RAZR has ~0.3 megapixel camera, the E815 has ~1.3 Megapixels - thats 1 whole megapixel difference.

The RAZR can't record video, the E815 can record video.

The RAZR2 and RAZR v3x, however, are awesome phones. Cingular only, I think.

Just go with the E815. You won't regret it.

It wouldn't be the first time a phone company totally redesigned the guts of a phone to make it work on another system. Especially with a phone as popular as the razr. Nokia had that one phone (I can't remember the model number, it may have been like 5180-ish) that worked on almost every system out there. They would slighly change the model number to show the difference. The look, faceplates, keypads, batteries, etc, etc were all the same.

The razr is thiner. I personally think they both feel the same strength. I wish the e815 was a little smaller. The razr looked cool on the commercial, but when I first saw it in person I thought it was the ugliest phone ever. Being that it is a hot seller, most people must disagree.
