I have a Macbook 5.1 with Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.8.

I just ordered ram upgrade to 8gb and want to install an SSD to further speed things up.

How do I install an SSD and clean install of Mountain Lion if its only a downloadable upgrade?

I know I can do a Clone Copy but from what I read a clean install is better.

I believe I have the upgrade disc for snow leopard if that helps.

    Thanks

Before you install your new hard drive, use your current installation of 10.6.8 to download Mountain Lion from the App Store.

    DON"T INSTALL IT!

Search google and/or the forum and you'll find instructions on how to make a bootable USB Mountain Lion installer.

Then you can install the SSD and use the USB installer to do a fresh install.

I'd also recommend putting your old hard drive into a USB enclosure and using it as an external drive (you could even boot Snow Leopard off of it).
