Mountain Lion and AirPlay?

I've been wondering whether or not AirPlay on OS Mountain Lion will be compatible with the Apple TV 2. I really hope it does. I'd hate to go out and buy the new Apple TV for only one feature >.<

Kinda like iPads. The ATV2 can AirPlay iPad2. Though, for iPad3, you have to have ATV3.

You don't need the ATV3 to airplay the iPad3, the ATV2 works just fine

The way Apple tends to function is by supporting any device that can run that particular software. Since both the 2nd gen and 3rd gen AppleTV's can both run 5.0 then one would think that the Airplay option will be present for both.

Obviously the 2nd gen will be limited to 720P as the max.

My guess would be that it will depend on the Mac hardware. The Macs now should work fine, but if you buy a new Mac that has the rumored high pixel density displays... That one could have a higher screen resolution than ATV can support. Thus, you'd have to have the new one that can do 1080p.

This is all pure speculation, but it's my guess anyways.

I don't really get what you mean. The iPad3 has a higher resolution than 1080p TV, so no matter what, it is going to have to downscale to 1080p (or 720 for ATV2 owners). Either way, iPad3 to ATV airplay works fine.

Wow you are so wrong. The atv2 and airplay work perfectly with the NEW ipad. Atv must have 5.0. And the mac will work fine.
