Depending on your location, you will be getting the download from a different server. Mountain Lion is probably just still being copied to all of Apple's servers.

Still getting the error in the UK.

Could it really be that the software isn't fully propagated yet? Surely they would have distributed to the download locations before releasing it?!

I think it's more likely to be a cap on the amount of permitted connections.
