Here are the minimum requirements for Mountain Lion. From what I can tell, yes you should be able too.

It will run, however if you wan to enjoy your iMac then install 6GB of RAM. 2GB is the bare minimum which means it will run but slowly and very possibly with a lot of beach balls.
