Mounting Gmail on desktop

Has anyone had any luck with mounting their gmail account on their desktop. i know it can be done on windows and linux using gmaillib, but I havnt been able to find anything for the mac.

that thread came to a conclusion that it wasnt usefull, and there was reference to a backup script, but i want to mount, not backup my mail or anything. i was asking for progress in the project in relation to mounting in the mac.

Is a bit of a bump in order here? I am absolutely unqualified to create a solution to this problem-- though I'm very interested in finding a way to access my Gmail account like a filesystem/backup drive, just like the Windows shell namespace extensions that do this.

Any luck?
