Mouse left-click not working on 26.3

Since updating to 26.3 my left mouse clicks are super inconsistent. It works like 50% of the time, and like 15% of the time it randomly double-clicks.

Right-click and scrolling appear unaffected (or at least not as bad).

It also seems to stop working while click-dragging too.

Anyone else experiencing this?
 
I'm using a Logitech Superlight mouse, which has a little dongle thing rather than bluetooth. It also happens if the mouse is plugged in too. I should test it with another mouse to see, but what's odd is that all other mouse functions are fine (right-click, scroll). It's just the left-click somehow. And literally just after updating to 26.3.

I did find this on the apple forum too:

I also use a Logitech MX mouse and keyboard with the dongle. Most problems usually arise IF I install the Logitech software.
 
I specifically have the logictech software not running for similar reasons. I have installed it in the past to update the settings on the mouse, then I disable it and stop it from running at startup or in the background.

I'm away from my computer at the moment sadly or I'd try with another mouse to see if it still acts weird there too.

When I had a similar problem (it wasn't registering clicks in Finder, etc.), I seem to remember solving it by changing channels.

I did it from a Windows PC so as not to mess up macOS 😉
 
My guess is that the switch in the mouse is failing, and the timing with Tahoe update is coincidental.

One test would be to move the mouse to another machine. If it's intermittent there, then the problem is in the mouse.
 
Seems unlikely as it happened from one reboot to the next, but I'll test it on other machines as well as testing other mice on the same machine.
 
I have had constant problems with Apple Magic Mouse left-click working as only right click, or as in today, post update to 26.3, left-click not working at all. I have multiple Magic Mice. NONE of them work correctly. One is even brand new. I was thinking about switching to a Bluetooth Logitech mouse, but that sounds like a non-starter too, based on this thread. You'd think Apple could make mice work with their computers. This has been an ongoing issue for Magic Mouse users for a loooooong time.

I have exactly the same problem....uninstalling all Logitech software helped a bit......but the problem is still present....
Uninstaling Logitech software is a pain as I love to use Thumb wheel on my mouse..........
Is there any way to use Thumb wheel without Logitech software?
 
Managed to test the Logitech mouse on anther computer and no issues at all. Also tested a trackpad/mouse on the computer that was showing problems and those are fine.

So something with the parsing/timing of an external (non bluetooth?) mouse is acting badly in 26.3.

I haven't uninstalled the Logitech software, but I don't have it running it all (it's prevented from loading in login items and background items).
 
Here's something you could try.
It won't take long, and won't hurt anything.

Go to the Users & Groups settings pane.
Create a NEW user and MAKE SURE you give it administrative powers.
You don't need to do anything more than give it a username and password (which can be anything you like).

Now...
Log OUT of your regular account, and log INTO the new "test" account.

How does the mouse behave now...?

If it's behaving as it should, then -something- in your regular account is messin' things up. If you can find out what... well, that can sometimes be "a job".

When you're finished with the [new] "test" account, you can just delete it.
Again, doing this will not hurt anything in your "regular" account...
 
My cheap microsoft mouse has had no problems and no need for special software, I recommend avoiding the extra software, if at all possible

BetterTouchTool has all this integrated into it. Configuring is a bit more complicated than on Logitech software but it is probably worth it.
 
I've switched over to my magic trackpad for now, and even that has started acting up. I had to restart the computer as I couldn't get any left-clicks to register on the magic trackpad, magic mouse, or logictech mouse. So I think it's safe to say there's something going on with 26.3 as this spans input devices, bluetooth, and a specialized dongle.
 
Just updated to 26.3.1 and the same issue persists.

I also tried updating GHub, but that made no difference either.

There appears to be something weird happening where the mouse becomes unresponsive to clicks and you have to kind of alt-tab around to get it back. I did read a reddit thread that mentioned something about an accessibility keyboard popping up invisibly or something, but I don't have anything like that enabled.

It's really frustrating as I can't use my computer normally, with any input device.
 
Has anyone had any more recent experience of this? I continue to have issues with my left mouse button (but only for opening apps/clicking buttons. Highlighting works fine AND (for those above who figured it was just hardware), it works fine without any trouble in Parallels.
