Hi everyone,

I’m running into an issue on macOS where my mouse sometimes registers a double-click even though I only click once. It’s not constant, but frequent enough to be annoying, especially when selecting text or dragging files.

Things I’ve already tried:
- Adjusting the double-click speed in System Settings
- Testing with different USB ports
- Trying the same mouse on another Mac (same behavior)

To rule out app-specific issues, I tested the raw mouse input using a simple browser-based mouse tester:

What I noticed is that occasionally two click events show up even when clicking slowly.

At this point, I’m trying to figure out whether this is almost always a failing switch, or if there’s anything macOS-related I should check before replacing the mouse.

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.

What mouse?
What Mac?
What OS version?

You didn't mention any pertinent info to be able to assist in a helpful way.

Somebody you know must have an unused mouse in some box that you could try... I'd expect it to be a hardware problem. If all else fails just get any $10 office mouse, that's what I prefer over the Apple mice anyhow.

If you’ve tried it on different Macs it’s likely the mouse that’s the issue. What mouse are you using?

I tried several times, and it should still be a hardware problem. Replacing the mouse will solve the issue.
