In Windows OS, under Mouse Properties one has the option of making the pointer/cursor snap to the default button in a dialogue box automatically, usually the OK button. How does one "switch on" this ability in Mac OS X?

Why, though, not just use the return button on your keyboard? Every default button can be 'clicked' with that key, so why use the mouse to click them at all?
