For the past few weeks now my mouse has been working erratically. Often (though not always) when I single-click the mouse, the system behaves as if I double-clicked it. It seems to happen instantaneously, faster than a person could even get the second click in there.

This is incredibly frustrating. When I want to select something, the system responds by launching it. If I'm in a large spreadsheet and I hit the scrollbar once to go forward, the system behaves as if I clicked twice and advances two pages.

I've seen some info on this problem here but no solutions yet. Anyone have a fix?

This seemed to start around the same time I ran an automatic Apple upgrade, but that could be coincidence.

What kind of mouse is this or is it a trackpad?

If it's a trackpad then you probably want to set the trackpad to NOT click when it's double tapped. I've worked on machines that have that feature and it annoys me. One, I like to keep my finger on the pad just in case of strolling moving, etc. Two, sometimes if you barely move your finger, it'll register it as a mouse click. Three, I do a lot of quick movements on the pad itself, so when I try to move a window quickly, it sometimes registers it as a click or double click.

Hopefully this helps, if not please add more detail to your problem.

This is also driving me increasingly insane. I have a Logitech MX1000 and the driver is all up to date. I don't what else to do. It has been getting worse in the past couple of weeks.

Edit @ 03:20: You see what I mean? This just happened right now when attempting to post this. It registered as a duplicate post.

You don't mention the status of System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse (my OS: 10.5.8) > Mouse ...double-click speed. If you adjust that, does it help?
I just adjusted the speed so I'll need a couple of hours or a day to get some feedback.
