My mouse ball only seems to go downwards can anyone help ?

Can you provide any specifics on what type of mouse this is? Is it a trackball or a mouse with an actual ball? Those are pretty rare anymore.

it is the one i got with the mac about 2 years ago with a tiny ball near the top of the mouse
