I want to put a hard drive from one machine into another without formatting.

I have a macbook pro 6,2 with an ssd that I am no longer using for work. I want my wife to upgrade to that macbook pro from her 13" white macbook. She has a relatively new seagate 500gb ss+hd that is set up quite nicely. I want to put that drive in the MBP and use the ssd in my new workstation. Can I do this and avoid reinstalling all her system to the ss+hd?

If the white macbook is upgraded to the OS that the 6,2 macbook shipped with (likely snow leopard), then just pop the SSHD into the 6,2 macbook and it should go fine. Then put the SSD into your workstation, and get a new drive for the white macbook and you have all 3 computers working.
