I wasn't expecting that to be honest. I just got the new MBP today
(15" 2.3GHz i7, Lion) and simply installed my SSD taken from the old 15",
a couple of generations old, Core 2 Duo in it.
Powered up and ... everything works. Absolutely everything, most
software don't even require reinputing the serials.
To be sure I did re-run the 10.6.8 update to clean up all the drivers
and removed all my cashes. It's completely flawless and as fast as before.

Yup, couldn't do that on a PC. I once took the hard drive out of an old Mac Mini and put it in an iMac (which typically uses 3.5" drives). Worked like a charm.

Try to reboot if you see it turn into different colors screen?

Just one more thing to do - repair your permissions, it cleaned up
nicely everything and now it really is amazingly fast to boot and everything...
