Well, I bit the bullet and bought a refurbished MBA M1. The rMB 12 was just getting too slow (I have the version with the most memory, fastest proc, and most storage, but still slow). My thoughts are:

1) the increase in screen size is welcome, but…
2) the overall increase in size and weight are a bit of a bummer.
3) so fast. So. Fast.
4) keyboard is oodles better. And I didn’t really have problems with the rMB.

At the end of the day, I wished Apple had used the rMB chassis, stuffed an M1 in it and the better keyboard (increase thickness by an 1/8 inch or whatever), and increased screen size by decreasing bezels… without measurably increasing weight. to the extent that it’s unlikely this will ever happen (tho who knows with new MBAs rumored), I’m happy with my purchase.

12" M1 would be perfect. Maybe after they move to the M2, we'll get an M1 12" MB. I feel the same way. I use a 12" MB when traveling, and it's great. But day-to-day it's too slow.

Agree that it's so fast. As per size, I mean, it's just 1 inch. Does that really factor in to your portability? Curious.

I bought the closeout 2017 m3 MacBook at Costco 2 years ago as I really love the form factor and runs macOS. Fitting an Apple M-chip will be such a delight. I put a 12.9-inch iPad Pro over it and the height of the iPad Pro is the same as the width of that MacBook. The pixel density of a MacBook/Air/13-inch Pro is 22x ppi and MacBook Pro (14 and 16-inch) each has a 254 ppi. Apple could push it a little higher on the lower end models.

Get rid of the 13-inch MacBook Air, re-debut the 12-inch MacBook with 2-port and different colors, then make the 13-inch MacBook Pro with either 2 or 4-port the standard. Of course, unless Apple throws in the Pro mode for the iPad Pro w/keyboard attached.

I have a MBA M1 and a 2017 Macbook, 16gb/512/i7. Strangely enough, I find the MBA so big that I don't like it. I have a 16" MacBook Pro (not M1) that I use on my desk at home, and I take the MacBook with me when I want to sit on the sofa or go to a library. It may look as if the MacBook and the MBA are almost the same size, but the difference (to me at least) is enough to make me forego using the MBA. I find the MacBook plenty fast, and the keyboard is fine. I wonder at the people who say the MBA M1 is very fast. No doubt that's true if you're editing video, but for most things, I find I don't see much difference in the speed. I do wish it had another port -- that's the biggest shortcoming of the MB for me.
