I just picked up a 16gb and wanted to know the best type of movie formats that I can save on the iPad. I put some digital copy movies on the iPad so far but take up too much space. Is there any way to downsize some of these movies in different formats?

You can use handbrake to convert movies down to the perfect size for iPad, you can use the VLC app and play almost any format.

H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/

You can use Handbrake to downsize some movies and transcode them to the right format using the iPad or Apple TV preset.

How big are your movies (in MB) and what format (file suffix) and codec (find out via VideoSpec) are they using?

And then there is AirVideo.
