When a movie is rereleased on disc does the iTunes version get automatically updated to include any new special fearures?

For example, one day Warner Bros. will release Tim Burton’s BATMAN on UHD.
When that happens we can expect tha anyone who owns the movie already on iTunes will receive a free 4K resolution upgrade. But what happens to the bonus content, what if the new UHD version has completely different special features, does the iTunes version change the bonus content, does it add to it, or even take away from what is there already? Will apple sell multiple versins of the same movie but with different binus content?

Good question and YES IF the movie company DECIDES to give extras to iTunes. It's entirely up to the companies and of course, for Apple to ask/demand/negotiate!

I have an example - HOME ALONE! I was given this for free 2013 as part of Apple's 12 days of Christmas (remember that?) in HD.
In the autumn of 2017 I noticed that it had been upgraded to include EXTRAS!
THEN in December it became 4K!!!
So these things do happen.
Whether we'll ever see the independent films which is more my kind of thing, ever get HDR/DV 4K treatment, i'm not sure.
In fact, it's amazing how many new releases on iTunes that are only HD and not 4K DV/HDR - 4K movies on iTunes UK seem to be a little quiet at the moment.
Hoping that I get iTunes EXTRAS when 'Call Me By Your Name' is released as i'd love to see as much of Northern Italy as possible - especially in the early 1980s! (Definitely not banking on it being 4K HDR/DV though).

Interesting, thanks for replying.

In my experience the extras seem to change with new editions that come to market. I can't name any specific examples, but I've noticed some older movies that I watched a few years ago that had extras seemed to have new/different extras when I re-watched them a few weeks ago. I think it all really depends on what the studios give Apple.

iTunes Extras are actually pretty standard Web-pages (HTML+CSS).
So you could create your own ;)

Beautiful read - thank you Priltv8! I always love graphic design elements like this!
Moonlight, a film that I bought the other evening has the nicest iTunes Extras that i've seen so far. Amongst the video, there was 102 beautifully shot photographs.
I LOVE iTUNES EXTRAS :) In fact, i'm always really disappointed when a film does not have them. It's truly going the 'extra mile' isn't it!

Plus fascinating delving deeper and seeing 'iTunes LP' an interactive side of an iTunes album. Shame the record companies haven't taken this up more.
Also can anyone explain why iTunes Music Videos are only sold in SD still? YouTube had them in HD in 2010. Seems so unlike Apple.
