Class action in 3...2...1...

This particular effort is probably done. But the market has been disrupted and someone will come in and build a castle from the rubble. It has been proven that a stable revenue model can come from this. Someone just needs to figure out how to make the numbers work. Then Hollywood can start complaining that they no longer makes enough money.

Now, I get this no matter which theatre I select :(

So, like, no one had a calculator when the recent college grad pitched the investors on this??

I found that the E-ticket theaters still seem to work (although I haven't actually pressed the SUBMIT button), but they do show movies and times, and allow me to go through the motions of buying a ticket.

Exactly. If anything... this will prompt theater chains to offer their own subscription service (and some already do!)

Why let a 3rd-party handle this stuff anyway?

I'll give credit to MoviePass for disrupting this space and building awareness.

But this is something the theaters should be doing themselves.

Theaters already run on lean margins anyway... so why let another company get into the mix?

Hell... the online price for a ticket at my local AmStar theater is $14.41... and it's the same price at Fandango too.

So what exactly is Fandango getting for being involved in the transaction?

The plunge in Facebook’s stock price, the MoviePass debacle, it’s all starting to feel a little like the bubble is preparing to burst. Half these companies never turn a profit - Uber, Lyft, Spotify, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. etc. Yet they have billion dollar valuations. The market is totally overheated right now imo. Watch for a crash within a year.

So what did they do with the 5 mil they just borrowed? Pay themselves their salaries I suppose.

I’ve been on MoviePass’s email list for a few years. My wife is a teacher and I thought about buying a 3-month pass (at $30+/month each) with her and binging over the course of a summer more than one year.

Their model hasn’t always been to sell for so low...but when it wasn’t, no one knew about them.

when does this become "bait and switch"?

also, its going to be interesting come November when a great deal of the people like myself bought the discounted year membership don't renew. I have a feeling that will be the final nail in the coffin.

Reminds me when I tried Sling to watch ESPN. Every time I went to watch an event it was blacked out. Fail.

All is fine then, as long as you don't want to watch any movie with Christopher Robin or the Meg.

But seriously, smart move. After all, I am sure restricting watching new movies is not that important for a subscription such as this. Who wants to pay money to watch new movies anyway! This is not going to be a suicidal move at all.

MoviePass is dead, but I’m looking forward to the subscription services the theater companies start coming up with. The AMC one looks cool. I just need Regal to start one since that’s what I have most of in my area.

Does anyone remember the internet bubble bursting in early 2000s? Ok, many of you are too young. I mention that because at the time there was a certain very interesting web site named f**kedcompany.com which itself is no longer active. But why bring up that old, venerable site? Because MoviePass.

90% of the stuff coming out of Hollywood these days is ****** so this is no big loss

This was the last straw. I thought the debacle over the weekend with Mission Impossible was tempo, but no, even today it was blacked out in my AO. Even worse, older movies now list previously frequented theatres as premium showings. Now I read this...

Cancelled two accounts. It was cool while it lasted.
