Surge pricing is something that doesn’t go down well with consumers and hope that customers vote with their wallet.

I don’t mind paying less to go at off peak times but at least fix those times as most timetables do. Don’t change it on a whim.

Some of us enjoy watching IMAX & 3D movies. How many IMAX/3D movies do people see with MoviePass?

And 3 movies a week isn’t a realistic limitation. There aren’t even 3 good movies that come out every week. With MoviePass, you can’t see the good ones twice.
I find it funny when people say that a service is limited (when trying to use that in an argument comparing services) if it gives you 3 movies a week. I’d be lucky if I could find 3 movies a week worth watching. I’d bet less than 1% of cinema goers go more than once a week on average.

i have the 1-year subscription from costco ($90)...and since january have already seen 40+ movies. i know it's too good to be true and i would like to see moviepass stay in business, but the part of me that signed up according to the original "rules" feels like i have been partly bait and switched.

I would like to see who actually cancels because of this small fee that you won’t even have to pay if you see the movie at a different time.

At $9.99 per month we have been stealing from MoviePass. I’d much rather pay this small fee if I have to than see the company go out of business.

It was actually founded in 2011.

this doesnt affect me at all. i hate going to the movies during a popular time.

You’re also limited to AMC theaters, paying double the price of MoviePass, and limited to 3 movies a week.
People have lives. Unless you're a movie critic who needs to see more than 3 movies a week. I got other stuff to do.

AMC now charges $4.99 for matinee and $6.99 for non-matinee. Why should I bother with MoviePass or AMC stubs.
I thought about this as well. I normally see 2 movies a week during matinee times only a $5 a pop. That equates to $40 a month. With A-List I can go anytime, any format, save $20 a month, reserve on line, and see 12 movies a month instead of 8. It works!

I’m one of the lucky few that have e tickets for movie pass in my area. I can easily avoid this extra fee. I’ve already seen over $90 worth of movies this year which is what I paid for movie pass. So I’m still happy with the product.

I thought the whole point of this was that it is a flat-rate subscription service.

But now they want to charge extra money for certain movie times?

This wasn't what I signed up for when I signed up for a 1 year subscription. Current subscribers should be exempt from this until their subscription comes up for renewal.

Unless I am missing something it does not cost MoviePass anything different no matter what time or movie I see.

Perhaps its time for a class action lawsuit against MoviePass. Any lawyers out there want to jump on this one?

I have not signed up for it, but I completely agree with you. especially if you were pre paid. Macrumors is not the place to ask for a lawyer

Do people really go to the movies that much?

I think a lot of people do (especially during summer), but beyond that there are plenty of film aficionados that frequent the movies on a regular bases (And during awards season, people see a lot of films as well).

In places like LA & NY, people will go to the theater to see films that they (or friends / colleagues ) worked on.

While Movie Pass allows you to see a new movie in theaters everyday, realistically (because you can’t see the same movie twice) there aren’t 30 (or 31 depending on the month) different movies playing in theaters at the same time.

So, just looking at it from a numbers standpoint, AMC’s A List isn’t that far behind simply due to the amount of releases playing at any given time, plus you can rewatch a film.
