Hi, i am in the process of changing my files over from Windows to the Mac.

I currently have my photos and videos saved in the same folder on my Windows set up as each folder contains a mix of photos and videos from some event

I see that on Mac OS X, it already comes with a separate folder for Pictures and a separate folder for Movies...

Can anyone see any problem if i was to delete one of these folders and then rename the other one to Movies & Pictures, thanks in advance

No problem at all. You can also create new folders, as needed.

Ok cool, so these are not needed for the iPhone or have any other dependancy

No, they're simply there for your convenience. You can choose any folder structure that suits you.

I was going to point out that if you use iPhoto, you can save both pictures and videos under a single application (which saves all those picture and video files under your pictures folder...) This is convenient, as you can sort both videos and still photos by date, device used to capture them, location, etc. all in iPhoto.
