how come when dragging a folder from 1 hd to another by the drag and drop option the dragged folder doesn't delete once the contents have been put into its new location if its on a 2nd hdd.

so if i drag & move a file/folder from my main hdd to a 2nd hdd, the file/folder on my main hdd doesn't delete, and if i do the same on an entirely different hdd.

I have upgraded to Lion but this also was the same in snow leopard, preferably i would like the file once copied (the original file) to disappear like it does if you copy from the main hdd.

Atm I have to delete the original file/folder.

There would be a lot of havoc, if that behaviour you want to have would be the standard.
To actually move a folder or file hold down the CMD key while you drag and drop.
What you do now is just copying a file and folder, which also happens when you do it on Windows and other OSs.

Normal function:
Drag a file/folder to another location on the same drive = move.
Drag a file/folder to another location on another drive = copy.
